Perhaps I shouldn't comment on this topic buuuuuut it is in the PC section...

Steam doesn't have achievements on all of their games, but their philosophy towards achievements is something I prefer. Achievements main purpose should be to add value to the game, rather than molding the precious e-penis.  If you want to flaunt a score, there are leaderboards.  

Any 360 owner who says they wouldn't want trophies is just kidding themselves. Sony implemmented trophies AFTER the achievment system was made and they made it BETTER. They do EVERYTHING achievement do, and add on it. And i am not just saying this because i don't own a 360. I will be the first one to admit that Nintendo has the best system (if and when they immplement it) because i am sure they will make it better than Sony's. Either way, both get the job done.

This is simply opinion based, no one is kidding themselves either way. XBL was before PSN but somehow its still worth getting paid for. Just because it comes after doesnt necessarily mean its better. <- that actually counters most of your argument.

The second thing is that you can tell them different... you can compare achievements/ratios. If you played very easy games to get platinums it is no different to high gamerscore. Both have got advantages. I like gamerscore because some achievements are actually worth 1gs not 10 or not worth a bronze trophy.

Thus achievements for mine, trophies for you.

This is not trying to hate on MS, but the first and foremost thing I noticed with achievements, were the many online achievements they have. Gears of war, Perfect Dark Zero, crackdown has some as well(doesn't it?). This was before I even had a PS3. I realized this was just a way for MS to promote their XBL gold and nothing else.

So I hated achievements. Fast forward one year, I got a PS3, I was happy it didn't have achievements, and I was proud of it. And then trophies arrived >.>

But I realized later that it was a move by Sony because fans were asking just like in-game XMB(which is awesome) so I understand.

All these achievements and trophy arguments are just BS, and now that I play PS3 more, I am accustomed to the trophies more but achievements have auto-synch which you guys conviniently forget. No need to press sychronize every time you shut your PS3 down after a session. Of course, the platinum trophy cancels it out imo because that's an awesome implementation, and I have one in one of my favorite AC 2!

Its not an opinion, its a fact. Trophies are better than achievments like XBLA is better than PSN. Its the truth. I never said that it was purely because it was immplemented second. However, trophies still do EVERYTHING achievments do minus the pop-up sound. However, achievments don't give incentive towards actually 100 percenting the game, and they don't show a level that could easily distinguish the MEN from the boys. It feels good to level up, and i am sure there are plenty of people who would agree with that. Like i said though, its no big deal, Just like PSN and XBLA, they both get the job done well. 

i think there both similar. i like the levels on trophies im currently lvl 12, but sometimes its nice to have individual scores eg. 5gs earned etc
