Forums - Nintendo Discussion - New Nintendo hardware announcement inbound?

Wouldn't it suck if Nintendo is going to release a brand new console for this Christmas season while Zelda Swords is coming out on old tech?

It would also be disastrous on Nintendo's end financially, which is why there's  no chance that will be happening.

2012 seems like the best option for me, 2011 will be there last good to great holiday for the wii.  i dont see the wii winning the holiday this year, unless the wii hits $99 price point. i see m$ and sony battling it out for the holiday sales crown this year.

There will be NO Wii 2 announcement at E3. I'm calling it.

Not gonna happen. Too much important software (Zelda, VS, DQX, god knows what else...) and way too many pricecuts that could have massive effects (Wii'll hit $59 eventually, and when it does...) left. Besides, from a SW perspective, they're still doing pretty darn well. If they wanted to, they could ride out without a successor till 2013, even if the amount of HW sold would be a joke.

“These are my principles; if you don’t like them, I have others.” – Groucho Marx

It's still a bit too early. Nintendo should ride out the poor sales of Wii for awhlie longer, at least until 3DS is out and the hype has settled down. It has built up enough of a lead that Nintendo doesn't need to rush the next console, even with poor sales.

The reason being, I still don't feel the full potential of the Wii has been realized yet. Wait for Zelda, bring out some more motion plus social games and Vitality Sensor. Also, Nintendo still has room for a $50, or even $100 price drop, as they are making a nice profit on the Wii.

Now, If those fail to reignite the console, THEN it is time for the next one. But they should ride this out until at least early 2012, as the holiday season will erase much of the defecit Wii gains during the slower months.

2012 should STILL be more than enough time to race ahead of the competitors, as it looks like Sony is content on riding out the PS3 for as long as possible, and I don't think they're in any financial state to throw out a new console right now anyway. And MS has reignited 360 sales at least in the US with Kinect, so I don't see a new console coming from them anytime soon.

2012 would be a good strategy for Nintendo, because by that point they will have built up a strong enough lead on the Wii so they could not be even close to being passed, AND Nintendo would almost ensure themselves 1st place for the NEXT generation as they would have a huge headstart.

True, though one could argue that was a very different Nintendo

Remember Twilight Princess? It released on the GCN. If SS gets delayed it may be pushed back to the Wii2.

I agree with what a few people have mentioned so far.  I just can't see them releasing a new system with Skyward Sword coming out on the Wii this summer (potentially November).  It's a critical title akin to NSMBW because it integrates the successful motion themed approach of the Wii Series (Sports Resort mini games using bow, sword, frisbee/boomerang, bowling-basketball/bombs, etc...) with a hardcore title, no less a tried and true Nintendo first party title.

This is NOT another twilight princess because twilight was a very standard game that had nothing to do with the prowess that the Wii has to offer.  It was on the wii, but made for the gamecube.  It'd be like saying Mario Sunshine was similar to Galaxy had it been ported over.

Also, to be honest, I don't think this article has anything in it worthy of the hype we're giving it.

Rule 1

never doubt the Wii holiday, here endeth the lesson

also just because nintendo release a new console first doesn't mean they are going to win the 360 isn't in 1st

i'd say they are going to have to replicate wii sports/resort,wii fit etc to have the same success not as easy as it may seem second time round
