Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bungies Destiny!

Well for awhile alot of us have been wondering what Bungie's big next project will be. Ever since Activision got the publishing rights for a new franchise for ten years the question has been what new franchise is this. Well a recently terminated angry employee has gone out and supposedly leaked the game's genre and name.

The game is called Destiny or Tiger(CodeName) and it is an MMO of sorts based in a sci-fi world. He said bluntly that the title would be "WoW in space." Considering the success Activision Blizzard has had with releasing MMO's like World Of WarCraft. The source said that the new game will run on a graphics engine built from the ground up by Bungie, it will also feature  unique online connectivity settings as well as new matchmaking systems not seen to date.

Now this isn't just a rumour officialy Joseph Staten said "Wouldn't it be great if we could make a world that was always there for you?" suggesting a possible MMO at last years GDC.

So what do you think? if true it means that WoW will have new competition from another Activision game. Could Activision play the Pepsi Coke card and release a second big MMO. Or is this sci-fi MMO bound to fail? Will this game be coming to 360/PS3 or PC exclusive like WoW?

God, can't companies stop trying to defeat WoW. How about attempt to convert some of its players instead of saying we will make a game equal or better then WoW in quality.

It will debut at Macworld 2012.  :)

Like Pachter said, it's like the Titanic Movie. The only thing that will beat WoW, is another game from the same developers themselves.

James Cameron had the greatest selling movie of all time; Titanic. Nothing beat it until his next hit; Avatar.

Blizzard had the greatest selling MMO of all time; World of Warcraft. Nothing will beat it until their next hit; [World of Starcraft, anyone?]

Now my theory is that this is Activision; they specialize in multiplatform. If it is as EPIC as everyone is saying [including Michael Pachter and Sony], then this is probably going to be fairly revolutionary. I personally predict a cross-platform MMO that will be hyped up to oblivion once it is announced at this E3. There are plenty of LIVE and [not as plenty because of DCUO] PSN players that are untapped in the ways of the MMO, and this is where Activision is going to start drilling, because NO ONE has yet. DCUO tapped a bit of PSN players, but never cross-platform gameplay. If cross-platform gameplay was a feature, then this automatically has at least 2 million sellers [one million from both sides].

People have been begging for a cross platform gameplay MMO forever; hell I dream of one during my free time [if only I was a videogame designer...], and if this is indeed a cross-platform gameplay MMO, then we're in for a whole new age of console MMOs, once companies such as [100%] EA and [less likely] Ubisoft try to play catch-up.

I don't know how good Bungie are outside Halo, as that's the only game they've created to date, and the only one I've played, I've played Halo and Loved it. But by the time the 3rd/Reach hit I didn't have as a dramatic of an impact as when 1 and 2 hit. Dare I say that Bungie lost their touch with years? We'll see when they do finally announce and release the new game.

The list is not that long, but I've never heard of those titles outside of Halo! Guess i am more of a game fan than the developer fan

I thikn it's silly to aim at beating WoW in terms of quality. Most of the features and gameplay in WoW is fairly dated if you look at upcoming MMOs like Guild Wars 2, so I hope Bungie isn't just setting the quality bar at WoW.

Best of luck to them...I, too wonder they will create a seamless world for PC/Xbox/PS3 owner, and what about for the next generation of consoles, due out in the lifecycle of the game.  Financially, it might be a transformative move on the part of Bungie, as they would effectively be dedicated in supporting the game, as Blizzard once had to do for WoW...if they game is a success.  Fallen Earth is a FPS RPG...it might work, not that Fallen Earth is a shiny example of success, mind you, but it is possible.  I'll be interested to see what becomes of it, but I can't see how this will work with consoles...unless they are going to be handing out checks to the console makers...let's see how FFXIV works on the PS3...whenever that launch date is…I HIGHLY suspect this will be a PC launch at first.
