Forums - Nintendo Discussion - "I'm a Major Game Creator and I Can't Get a 3DS"

Imageepoch CEO Ryoei Mikage.

The last time we played "I'm a Major Game Creator and I Can't Get a 3DS," Capcom's Yoshinori Ono, producer of Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, also known as Super Street Fighter IV The Only Launch Title That Matters, told us that he would be lining up on launch day as he'd been in Europe for a 3DS-related event when Nintendo had started up pre-orders.

Ono isn't the only major producer who's going to have to go through some hurdles to get a system on the 26th, though. Imageepoch CEO Ryoei Mikage posted at Twitter today that he's never pre-ordered a game system before and is in the group who will give up if he can't pick up the system at launch. "I'll buy it when I can buy it," said Mikage.

Mikage and Imageepoch don't have a launch game on the way, but Mikage has in the past given some indicated that 3DS will be a focus for his studio. Imageepoch is known to be working on a "strategy RPG" of some form for the system. This is scheduled for release in 2012.

I assumed Nintendo would give VIPs like Ono and Mikage 3DS systems well ahead of launch. You know, help fuel their creative engines and all. But I guess not!

I'm going to be on the lookout for Ono, Mikage, and maybe even Miyamoto on launch day.

Eh? Devs don't get the retail version of 3DS shipped to them?

EXACTLY

Dude, buy one yourself, and quit moaning like a little baby!

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I agree that the developers should not be given free consoles. But they should be able to buy them directly from Nintendo. The more time developers play with the device the more they will be inspired to develop new games for it. Sure they have dev kits but developers should be encouraged to play other peoples games and play the device out side of work.

I know with PSP Sony gave everyone free PSP's, I don't know if the developers got them but I know G4 reported Sony had sent each of them a PSP with a copy of every single launch title. Kevin was extremely happy. So I assume Sony provided the developers with free systems as well, unless they were just blatantly bribing the press.

The guys at G4 are reporting on it, of course Sony would want them to have the units, they want the publicity.
