Forums - Sony Discussion - SCE release Piracy Statement

Do your best, Sony. 50% of the gaming I do on my PS3 is online, I don't want it compromised!

This won't effect those playing offline though, will it? I don't think many of the pirates are actually stupid enough to be playing pirated games online.

Banwaves on live! and following angry nerd rage stroms on forums suggest otherwise ;)

You guys are acting like this is a big deal? So they are getting banned off the service... this in no way stops people from pirating... And haven't they been trying to block these guys for awhile now? I keep hearing how the DNS hack keeps getting blocked. Sounds more like a desperate plea, "We can ban you guys so please stop playing pirated games, don't make us do it... :("

It is a big deal. A lot of people will not risk it due to the loss of PSN and other programs acess. It will not completely stop piracy but it will reduce the level of it.

didn't the hackers already returned PSN acces in their custom firmwares?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Besides, playing offline with a 360 or a PS3 is just dreadful. Most games benefit greatly from online services nowadays.

They can play offline all they want. :>

I haven't played on PSN for about a year now. And maybe six months on the 360. Never on the Wii, and never on the PC :)

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

I don't play on PSN, and i have a 160Gb PS3 original

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

These devices permit the use of unauthorized or pirated software. Use of such devices or software violates the terms of the “System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System” and the “Terms of Services and User Agreement” for the PlayStation Network/Qriocity and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.

Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system. In addition, copying or playing pirated software is a violation of International Copyright Laws.

========================================================================================

Finally a statement where they separate both things, because hacking a system that you own is not illegal, it violates the agreement invalidating the warranty (which is a well known risk and if someone using a system hack doesn't know the risk, he deserves a bricked system) but it's not illegal... The illegal part is the violation of copyright laws...

Yes, but you use the PSN. The proof is in your sig. If you were a pirate, you would be detected (assuming Sony knows what they're doing). Just one synch of the trophies and you're flagged (or so I read).
