Do you KNOW that as a FACT?  Have you and a design team brainstormed on different ways to do it, implemented them in a dev system and tested them out thoroughly?

That's totally why there's going to be a non on rails Gears of War on Kinect! Oh wait

You know, for a mod, you're not really setting a good example ...

How so?   Stating the obvious and cracking jokes about it? Sorry if that's abbrasive to you, if you just discussed it and made some counter points, like examples of any camera based game that has a reliable set up to move around in 3D space that would prove me wrong right there, and if you don't have that, theorize ways to fix it. Honestly I say this to my friends all the time, Kinect would be an amazing set up if they had something like a wireless nunchuck to go with it, give you a control stick for movement and a trigger for your FPS games and it'd be really fun, just like the Kinect hack that worked with the Wii remote.

I really don't see why you're upset.

Because you don't want to have an open and honest discussion about it.  You condemned Kinect by going on and on about what can't be done by it.  And when confronted with the reality that you are not a developer with a team of talented and creative people that have put Kinect through the paces, you responded with jokes about a rumored game.

You're acting like a troll and, as a mod for this community, that sets an awful precedent for what is acceptable around here.  To be honest, I'm not upset.  Just somewhat disappointed . . .

Uh suuuuuuure I'm the troll here, not the one pointing out the obvious that no motion camera game has ever had reliable controls to move in a 3D space, honestly your attacks against me are 100% baseless, while I've not attacked you, and I actually ground my argument on history and how all current kinect games are on rails or stationary, and all announcements and rumored games are the same... so yes I am here for a serious discussion and I'd ask you to be respectful of other posters instead of lowering yourself to attacks... that's a good way to get on many peoples bad sides... and it's not like I really care if you want to call me a troll or whatever but if you go off doing that to other posters a lot... then it's going to be a problem...

For the record, I haven't attacked you.  You haven't attacked me.  But you did attack my suggestion of how Kinect could be used for a potential Mirror's Edge sequel.

The entire basis of your argument is "it hasn't been done, so it can't be done".  Well here it is, being done.  Mind you, that is with just one hand and Kinect can use a lot more.  Very rudimentary for sure, but proof of concept and this is just one guy with a hack.  Add a team of creative and talent devs, I'd imagine that they can (and will) do far more impressive things.

For the record, I did not call you a troll, I said you were acting like one.  If you attack every idea that hasn't been done yet in gaming with this same vigor, then maybe you're just someone that lacks creative vision.  But if this is aimed directly at Kinect, then yeah, you are acting like a troll.

I have no problem when someone disagrees with me, as long as they are respectful and reasonable.  Just ask Reasonable, lol.

Uh saying people are acting like trolls is attacking them, in fact you've been trying to attack other peoples credbility in other threads just to try to hit home some point of yours, that isn't a way to conduct discussion especially when it's so baseless.

Anyway that's a cool video but I already knew you could make it work through hacks on the PC, it is a nice concept of doing variable speeds with the elbow, however that is a hack running on the PC and not the 360, it matters because of the hardware they stripped out of the Kinect to make it affordable, it runs off the device its hooked up to for processing.

This brings me to a couple of issues:

A) The lack of resources is what causes the lag for Kinect games on 360, this is nullified with the PC hacks, so what's reliable on the PC doesn't translate to the 360 since you have to build it for the hardware, which is the point, kinect games aren't made for hacks on the PC they're made for the 360.

B) The concept is nice but much like the Wii holding your arm in that position starts to hurt over time but unlike the Wii you can't just use your wrist and rest your arm on your leg, that hack is actually tracking your hand position and elbow, many Wii games ran into a problem of "waggle" because it used motion too much and it does get tiring.

So in short this is your first step towards actually discussing this topic, the video is a nice start to present contrast to my point, and my argument was never "hasn't been done, so it can't be done" I brought that up in one of my posts in fact that there were ways around it, my point was reliability of controls to make a game like mirrors edge on 360 work, which if you use the concept the hack used you lose the "immersive" controls you started this conversation with, since it's tracking your hand and elbow position it would be hard to reach up and grab without messing up your camera angle you see.

Basically I want you to get back on track with how you used to post rather than how you've been posting lately, you used to do things like make arguments based around videos like the one you just brought in, and you didn't attack people for having differing views, I just don't want you to inch over that line of what's okay and not okay.

Basically all I've brought in is the very thoughts you have to go through when developing for your audience and developing around your hardware, I've said many many times Dance Central works really well because it's built around the hardware and limitations of the device itself, this is the smart way to develop, just going with an idea headfirst typically lends to you realizing you can't really do it in practice and then you have a game you've poured money into but not a lot to show for it.

Trolls don't go around making opinions based on history and facts it's all baseless without content, which is the very reason we have the rules we have in place, thank you.

Don't worry.  This probably won't be the end of Mirror's Edge.

EA will gone on to release a crappier version of it on the Wii and act shocked when it doesn't get any sales.
