Rumor: EA puts Mirror's Edge sequel on hold

Posted February 14th, 2011 at 09:33 EDT by Mike Harradence

A planned sequel to Mirror’s Edge has allegedly been put on ice, according to a report on V!chachu.

The translation states that publishing powerhouse Electronic Arts had previously lifted the curtains on a demo of the follow-up behind closed doors. However, the chaps at developer DICE have apparently moved on, with the project now “stalled.”

The inaugural parkour-based adventurer somersaulted onto store shelves back in 2008, though sales were a little sluggish to say the least. Despite this, EA head honcho John Riccitiello commented back in late 2009 that the title does “deserve a sequel.”

Nooooooooo!!!

Please don't let it be true, I need more Mirror's Edge! The first game had moments of brilliance and despite its many faults, it was a great game!

I really hope they finish and make the sequel. It was a great idea and a good game with a few fixable flaws. The mechanics themselves worked well, it just needs some better level design and competitive multiplayer (imagine dropkicking someone off a skyscraper!) and it's sorted.

My thoughts exactly.

C'mon EA!!!

Shit.

I loved the art direction of the first game, even the overly vibrant color choices and even the music. The plot was stupid, (runners to deliver packages?) These runners should have to steal physical objects such as jewels or viles of bacteria, plus the whole idea of sexy women being the runners is a little lame as well.

I would want someone with good upper-body strength to do the running if I contracted a runner, thus a man would be the only logical choice based on facts.

This makes me want to go and buy the first game and try to platinum it, (I only ever borrowed it from a friend before)

It's not easy (although the DLC makes it easier), but definitely a great experience to get good times on all the time trials.

If anything DICE is putting BF3 as their #1 project and MiE2 is second priority.

Really? On hold? Whyyyyy

I'm starting to get tired of these gaming giants i.e. EA and Activision not give two-sh*ts on us gamers and throw away quality titles and would be quality titles just so they can make a quick buck off the First Person Shooters they have prioritized...

Its getting pretty freaking ridiculous IMHO.

I can see why you would blame Activision, but EA has been pumping out a lot of great content lately, and are looking to continue doing so for some time. And we nag all we want about Mirror's Edge 2 being on hold (if this is true), but we have no way of knowing if EA made the right call. Maybe the game was abandoning things that made the old game great? We can't really tell.

God I hope not, Mirror's Edge did as good as dead space and yet everyone says dead space sales where great and mirror's edge's were sluggish what the hell, I really think EA backed the wrong horse with trying to turn dead space into a franchise and ignoring Mirror's Edge, hopefully this is either wrong or the dev team is just being drafted to help with some other releases and will get back to it, EA better not fuck it up

How the hell are they suppossed to break into places with that kind of thing when it's illegal to even have private messages, and if you actually knew the backstory they were delivering messages to people who were opposed to the government and the secrutiy restrictions, political interests where a way better choice then common thieves as for girls being runners if you knew anything about free running or anything at all you know girls would probably be better at it, girls usually have less trouble pulling themselves up because they weigh less, and they are more flexible which comes in handy, and the ratio seems about even which isn't that off from free running in the real world
