Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Monster Hunter on the 3DS

O'k I think Monster Hunter would be perfect on the 3DS for one.  I've never played any of them but heard they are really good and keep getting better. Capcom has hinted at going to new hardware after hearing about the 3DS.  But NGP is also coming out so they could possibly be talking about that instead. Who knows really. But seeing how they want to release Monster Hunter Portable 3rd to the western Audience but its not profitable due to hacking in the west, do you believe they may make it for the 3DS? Monster Hunter is not exclusive to the PSP seeing as Monster Hunter Tri came to the wii.  The only reason that Monster Hunter was never made for the DS was because it didn't have the power, which is obviosly not the case for the 3DS. So what does everybody think.  Will Monster Hunter come out for the 3DS or not.  And give an explanation.

I'm thinking a MH3G aka MH3P port for 3ds will come...and next MH will be ps3/NGP

I'm pretty sure it will hit the 3DS but only because Capcom have proven they want maximum return on dev costs. So the 3DS should be more cost effective to develop for than the NGP.

The 3DS has so many games coming to it, almost crazy amount. But MH is still wanted for some reason. You want MH, buy a PSP.

Well, the only reason that Monster Hunter Tri was released on the Wii was because the development costs were too high on the PS3. I'm assuming that the development costs for the NGP will be higher than those of the 3DS, so it would make sense for Capcom to make an MH game for the 3DS over the NGP if possible.

That being said, the MH games released here in America have tended to only sell about 400-500k copies. I'm not sure if Capcom wants to take a huge chance or not. If Capcom reformulated MH just a bit to make it more accessible, I'm sure that it would sell well here in America. Otherwise, MH will be relegated to the "sort of a success" type of game. Possibly profitable (500k copies sold per installment in NA), but not really a blockbuster.

EDIT: In terms of worldwide sales, Monster Hunter Tri underperformed compared to the PSP/PS2 MH games, right? (2 million of MH3 vs. 4 million of MH3P) I kinda' wonder what Capcom's expectations were.

Now slow down this cherry train right here.

When did it become taboo to speculate or wish for third-party series transitions occurring in the next generation, and how does the current state of things somehow detract from that same speculation or wishing?

Monster Hunter on the 3DS just doesn't make any sense.Capcom has no reason to split the handheld Monster Hunter fanbase. With NGP's recently announced 3rd portable port it's like Capcom is already announcing where the series will be going.

Not even to mention control problems. We saw what happened with wii when it comes to the controls.Capcom has no reason for further experiments.

3DS online is pretty good i think, so thats one of the most important factors.

Selling millions of consoles before the end of 2011 is THE most important factor though. Waiting untill E3, but odds dictate that Nintendos moneyhatting of rpg content in japan is likely to continue.

^ If Nintendo poach MH4 from Sony its going to be a tough few years for the NGP, even if theres a long wait for its release.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

See I just don't know whether that is an entirely accurate statement, since we know just how valuable the easily ported PSP version was.

We could be in a situation where Capcom decides that home console sales are MORE IMPORTANT to the entire sales of the sequel, but thats just not how console sales are going in japan right now, and we all know this.

now why would they hint at it coming to the 3DS like they did then. THis is exactly what was said.  he sated "3DS is releasing, too, so the time to switch to a new platform is coming".
