Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What Nintendo SHOULD do for Wii 2

With Wii nearing the end of its cycle and 3DS about to explode on the market, there has been some speculation on what Nintendo will do with its next console system, the Wii2?

At this point it is anybody’s guess, but I personally would like Nintendo to try the following for its next console:

1) Go for higher-quality graphics.  Sure, settling for low-res graphics worked in favor of Wii at the time, but now with HD beginning to find its stride, it is no surprise that Wii games are starting to look somewhat stale by comparison.  The 3DS seems to be an indication that Nintendo is going to try for more advanced technology for their next console.

2) Keep costs at a reasonable price.  And by that I don’t mean that their game budgets have to be on par with that of a PS3, but at least be somewhere inbetween super-cheap and super-costly, which seems to be the extreme divide between Wii and Xbox360/PS3.

3) Improve online functionality.  This is an area that many fans agree that Nintendo needs to work on.  They haven’t quite gotten it yet, but I would like to see them do it.

4) IMPROVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THIRD PARTY PUBLISHERS AND GAME QUALITY.  While Nintendo DID manage to acquire MH3 and DQX, most other third party titles have either been shovelware or just mediocre, with few of them emerging as true gems.  If anything, both Nintendo and third parties need to make a compromise.  I like the approach both sides are taking with 3DS, but I would like to see that same strategy repeated for Wii2.  The latter may be a bit more difficult due to the current circumstances for the Wii (won’t rehash them to save time).

5)      GET MAJOR RPGS FROM THE GET-GO.  Despite the downward spiral of the JRPG market on consoles, particularly new IPs, the next system should have a DRAGON QUEST, FINAL FANTASY and MONSTER HUNTER, respectively, because all three will sell gangbusters, regardless of the circumstances.   It has been a long time since a Nintendo console has EVER had a true entry in the FF franchise, and if Nintendo wants to acquire better terms with gamers, then a legitimate FFXV or something along those lines COULD be valuable, provided its quality is not on par with its latest installment (FFXIV).  Yes, Wii DID manage to get DQ and MH entries, but their first entries were either ports or spin-offs.  MH3 didn’t even hit until four years after Wii’s premiere on the market, and DQX has yet to emerge.  If they don’t want to repeat the same mistake they did with Wii, then any entry to these three franchises on their new title should be a legitimate one, not a sub-par spin-off.  Indeed, one might say that had MH3 and DQX been released earlier in the system’s life span, Wii probably wouldn’t have declined in Japan like it did.

That’s all the reasons I can think of, but I think there are others who have similar ideas.  Either way, I definitely want to see Wii2 correct many of the mistakes Nintendo made this generation, as well as those with N64 and GC.

What Nintendo should to do with Wii 2?

1. Not name Wii 2.

2. Not make another Game Cube.

3. Continue with their own "generation".

About your points, agree.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

1,2 and 4 seem like a given.  Not sure if they'll do 3 or 5 though.

Yeah, Wii 2 is a terrible name.  Personally I think that "Wii HD" sounds great, as long as the masses knew it wasn't just an HD version of the same Wii.

They just have to try harder to avoid being copied by other hypocrites.

Thats the main thing they need to do.

They should also increase the size of the Zelda team. I'm sick of waiting on average 4  years for a home console Zelda to be launched.

Also, I want Animal Crossing WITH A PROPER ONLINE FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!!!!!

That is all.

make it so the dam thing works!

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I agree 80% with your post.

Super Wii not Wii 2 sounds better.

It be like old days Nes to SNES.

But knowing Nintendo they may change the name completely. However it will be hard as Wii is BIG  BRAND on its own.

if its super wii then we are going to get super in front of every name to go along with wii at the end

example: Super Super Mario Brothers Wii

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

1. Very likely, I expect the graphics gap to be similar to PS2 - XBOX/GC, rather than like this gen

2. I expect the Wii to be a similar or silghtly higher price to the 3DS, so about £230-250 ($368-400), which isn't too bad

3. The 3DS suggests to a degree Nintendo will do that, by making downloads transferable to a new console and only 1 friend code.  Other aspects of improving online play are still up in the air

4. This has started this gen, it will continue next gen and will accelerate faster if Nintendo's console is or is seen to be a success.  It will never get the same level of 3rd party support as the other consoles, but I imagine it will be significantly better than the Wii's

5. I think the 'Super Wii' or whatever will be the JRPG home console of the 8th gen, but whether this will be apparent from launch I am unsure.  If a mainline DQ game is announced for it early on, I can see many 3rd parties not wanting to miss an oppotunity to launch JRPGs on the 'Super Wii'.
