 Console wars always existed. This isn't about Sony. It's about Consoles.

 

In the third-gen Nintendo competition was weak. The Sega Master System was good but could not touch Nintendo. Then Sega released the Genesis/Mega Drive which started off quick and took a lead the the fourth-gen. Then the SNES came out and since Nintendo was the household name the SNES overtook Sega. Then Sony jumped in 5th gen and won.

How did MS screw Sony? MS did exactly what Sony did with the PSOne. Sony had no roots in gaming yet jummped in with a console. Microsoft, same deal they jumped in with the XBOX though that system did nothing in terms of massive sales it gave MS a name in the gaming circle XBOX which is now XBOX 360. MS is doing the same thing Sony did with Playstaion build a brand name . When people say PS3 they hardly say Sony and when people say XBOX 360 or 360 they don't mention MS. Nintendo is a brand all itself the reason people are buying Wii's is Nintendo. Nintendo is attached to games and alot of people know the name old or young.

On Topic: I agree with HappySqurriel, Nintendo Wii can make a big advantage in terms of sales, then launch a more powerfull console than PS3 and X360, so they have the buyers atention and start gaining ground in the next generation.

You do know that what eventually became the PSOne was a Nintendo and Sony joint venture that was to be the SNES-CD? Nintendo pulled out after Sony wanted to take all copyrights to the games that were created on it. Eventually, Sony released it on their own after a few revisions. And yes Nintendo won the orginal console wars against Sega in the third and fourth-gens in the late 80s and 1990s.

Nintendo.com says nes sold 69million, and says the snes sold 49, million those are the 2 consoles nintendo won their generations with the 2 fore sony were obviously the ps1 and the ps2 both selling more than 100million

snes + nes = 118million
ps1 + ps2 = 200+ million

Really nes+snes+n64+gc is still less than

i really think that nintendo will dominate this and next generation, then sony will do the next one. microsoft i dont think have a chance to ever dominate. mainly because they are only popular in america.

unless microsoft buys out one of them.

Well, we have to admit PSone DID innovate and brought a larger community to the market (myself included) :P Not that it was more innovative than Nintendo of course, i just think both deserve credit.

OT:
It's still too soon to jump to conclusions, but if Wii keeps selling at this rate, then Nintendo will keep its' retaken throne :)
