as long as it's 350 or less I'm game...the piece of HW is worth it

300 sounds about right to me...i still don't get why everyone thinks the NGP is going to be soo much more expensive than the 3DS.  the 3DS has two screens -- the NGP has one screen and more raw power.  it's a bit of a tit-for-tat.

The NGP's screen is pretty expensive itself along with the 3G, CPU/GPU, trackpad and memory it's not going to be cheap. The iPod Touch sells for $299.99 at 32GB and $399.99 at 64GB right now for a comparison. I think $349.99 will probably be the price if they want to go as cheap as they can, but I don't think a $399.99 pricetag is out of the question.

Good points. The iPod touch has a much weaker cpu/gpu, no physical buttons, no 3G, no back trackpad, etc... NGP is going to be expensive or sold for quite a loss, imo.

The iPhone 4 costs about $180 for Apple to make, probably a bit less now.
Their rip-off margins are humoungous.

If you want a source, it's easy to google how much the iphone 4 costs to manufacture.

And that iPod touch is sold with Apple price margins which might be even higher than Nintendo ripoff margins while Sony will go for small loses or no profit on initial sales.

Also a good point. Apple is notorious for ripping people off on hardware costs.

agree with the apple statement -- they have amazing margins so the comparison isn't really valid.

to the screen on the NGP -- i did my grad research on OLEDs and organic solar cells and i can tell you, the reason that industry is so interested in this tech is that the manufacturing of OLED screens is much much easier than competitive techs like LCD.  I wouldn't be surprised if the 3DS's two screens cost more than the NGP's one screen.

okay yeah, the raw power of the NGP is going to cost more than the 3DS but knowing sony is planning to take a small lose-lead strategy and that nintendo never seems to attempt that...i can't imagine the NGP is going to be much different in cost from the 3DS.

300 sounds right to me.

oh didn't know about that tbh...thanks for sharing

after the 599 us dollars and the 250 PSPGo  i dont see this being 300, it does too much crap for it to be that cheap. i have no faith in SOny's pricing. im think 350 minimum

Looks just like a placeholder to me, especially considering that date sitting next to it.

Wasn't there also confirmation that there going to be two versions at launch as well? One with 3G and without?

Dayum!.. If true :D. Awesome entry price for what is shaping up to be a great portable, but I don't have much faith that it'll be that low, just seems too good to be true!

Just as a question, if the iPhone 4 is such a rip-off why don't we see similar products from other manufacturers at dramatically lower prices? After all, if you could make an iPhone 4 for under $200 why don't we see Microsoft selling a similar featured phone for $200 to $250 to capture marketshare?

In reality, the manufacturing costs are probably far higher than the iSupply numbers would indicate; and the market demands that these phones are artificially market up otherwise no one would buy into carrier's moronic contracts.

Didn't they originally charge $999.99 for the 3DS before the price was confirmed? Why are they putting $299 for the NGP?

This is the only reason i'm finding this 299 price tag believable. Usually place holder prices are extremely high.

remember people were blown away when sony announced a ps2 for $299. a full $100 less than the dreamcast. Soony has been putting high priced products out lately but i think they may have realized what made PS2 soo successful which was features, good price, and games.

If this is true then sonyy have gotten features down as well as good price. Now the gamez
