Forums - Sales Discussion - X360 only 630k more units than PS3 for the whole of 2007

the PS3 sold faster then the 360 in it's first 1 year 2 months... thats quite a feet. Sony is doing quite well for the consoles they are up against and they have shown they are willing to bleed some to be successful in the end.

I've seen you post this before, and I've posted this in response before.

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&weeks=156

PS3 and 360 sales curves are almost identical, and currently the red line is below the green line. Maybe these graphs are inaccurate and PS3 is outselling 360 for the same period in its life cycle, but any advantage is statistically insignificant. These lines are so close, it's like they came out of the same cloning vat.

That being said, PS3 has been performing quite well in the past couple months. Sony has bent over backwards and thrown money out the window to salvage this generation, and their efforts have visibly paid off. The contest between PS3 and 360 will be an interesting one.

You don't need XBox Live Gold to download content. And anyone who thinks the 360 is still going to be the same price it is today on the release date for GTA4 is fooling themselves.

And neither will the PS3. If you don't need the XBox live Gold Account to download content, then why would you get it? What's the incentives to having a gold account other than the fact that it is a Gold account?

Didja get that thing I sentcha?

As far as extra content goes for GTA4, Sony could have a few surprises for us. The game was delayed a while, Kaz Hirai seems to know better what games sell the platform more than Kutaragi, and this "useless" Blu-ray format holds a few more gigs than the "plenty-sufficient-enough" DVD.

It's only a hypothesis and I will gladly eat crow if not true. I did think that Sony would have a $400 PS3 by this Christmas, even though I would have been labeled crazy some point earlier.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

What I found on the XBox website: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/xbox360/features/goodasgold.htm

Gold account

"You get better, the game gets bigger: download new content, GamerPictures and themes along with free game demos and trailers with full access to the Xbox Live Marketplace."

This was mentioned only on the Gold account membership, not the silver. I know of the waiting period for downloads for silver membership, but does this include add-on game content?

Didja get that thing I sentcha?

Wow this argument is retarded on 360 fanboys and Sony fanboys side.

My thoughts:

PS3 can afford another price cut(Cheaper parts(45nm and 65nm), Cheaper production of those parts(Blu-ray drive), Skimping on the 40 gig)

360's main market will be NA(ps3 will never outsell it)

BUT....

Japan + Others = PS3's sales = or > 360's sales figures(15mil) at '07 end.(PS3 will cut into 360's gap)

Halo3 + Mass Effect + Bioshock = Huge line up that boosted 360's sales a bunch. Obviously Halo 3 was the biggest contributor BUT if 360 has another decent line up this year they will keep their sales going.

PS3 had a lack of games. But it did well considering. IF this is an indication on how well it sells when its in a slump when MGS, GT5, and FF(All sequels) come out those will be the equivalent of 360's '07 line up. (Which will boost it a bunch)

PS3 had only 1 Price cut for the 60gig and then had 1 for the 80gig. 2 different models. Only 100 dollars each. 60gig $600 - $500. 80gig $600 - $500. 20 gig $500 - discontinued. 40gig $400 - $400.

I fail to see the 200 dollar price cut...

The "4model PS3"... Wow 360 had the Core, Premium, and Elite. (Not that big of a difference)

Notice the key words in my post like IF and BUT.

I'm obviously Pro PS3 in this situation, but I'm not going to say "OMG 360 SUX AND HAS NOTHING '08." It is still going to be in the competition and I believe it will be a head to head battle(that I think ps3 will pull out in front in '08)

The reason I think it will be Sony '08 is because they have had a year of trial and error and I think they finally took off in the right direction. If they keep it up they'll be fine.(If they mess up again though.... Sony - "whoops")

GhostMLD - Xbox didn't need to have a price drop their whole 1st year. They had no Competition. Why drop price when people only have one choice and that choice is you. That would have been pretty stupid on their part.

Bottom line Wii '07 sales > 360 '07 sales > PS3 '07 sales.

'08 ? sales > ? sales > ? sales We will only know at the end of '08.

The question is what will happen when GTA4 hits and MS drops the price.

Can sony afford another pricecut in 3-4 months?

I ask the same when MGS4 gets released. During that period, I wonder what MS will do.

Nintendo & Sony supporter:

 Consoles: Wii & PS3.

This has been sticking out to me all year. The PS3 has really been selling great, it just did not meet the expectations set by its older brother. Next year can only be better for the system, and it will surly begin to be accepted in America. Looking at next year their is no way Mircosoft will be able to keep pace. I have posted these same bolt points in many other threads and I think it will become part of my sig.

Reasons the PS3 will sell better next year than it did this year:

-It will be avalible for $200 dollars less to begin the year, and will drop to $349, then $299 for christmas.

-Blu-ray will become the only option for HD, thus making consumer awarness and acceptance skyrocket.

-Sony Will launch Home, along with a music, and video service to rival iTunes which = consumer intrest.

-PS3 has major hits coming that interest all markets, DMC4 will do well for Sony in Japan, MGS4 will be a system mover worldwide, GT5 will be the biggest non-bundled FP game this gen, and thats just a few.

-PSN will begin to rival if not surpass Live.

-Firmware updates will bring many features people are sitting on the fence about. (I know two people waiting for in game XMB before they will move from their PS2)

The gold account allows you to play online.

Peter - The Gold account (the $5/mo) lets you play multiplayer online, and get downloads 1 week earlier. That's it.

As for the exclusive GTA content: I think it'll matter. When a consumer goes into a store, and does not own a X360/PS3, and asks the clerk what the difference is, and they reply "oh, the Xbox 360 version is going to have extra content, and the PS3 version won't" and see that they could get a Xbox 360 for upto $130 cheaper in the US, or more.......It's going to matter to more people than you think.

Here's the issue of lineups, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong:

The Playstation 3 has litterally no strong AAA exclusives until Metal Gear Solid 4 releases. No date has been solidified. After that, you have Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, and Killzone 2 that are planned in 08, but not confirmed.

The Xbox 360 has Banjo Kazooie 3, Alan Wake, Too Human, Fable 2, and a few other minor games. All are slated this year. However, the AAA exclusives such as Too Human will probably release earlier than MGS4.

So we know when the X360 lineup will start moving hardware, but not so much for the PS3. The PS3 will definately sell better this year than last, I don't think anyone can, or will argue that. But the argument I see is if it's going to sell neck-and-neck with the X360 for the whole of next year. The PS3 had a pricedrop 1 month ago vs. the X360 getting a pricedrop in August. Effectively, MS releasing the X360 Arcade Pack made the same difference on consumer purchasing as the $100 PS3 price cut.

So the ball is in MS's court, on if they want to beat Sony. Sony has used up all of it's timeouts, and the ball is in Microsoft's court.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Saying that the ball is in MSs court is a bit much , especially without Sony having any big games released yet . Shure , I cant throw my opinion down yout throat , but youl see what Im talking about late next year :)
