Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Stockholm Konserthuset will premiere the Nintendo tribute concert LEGENDS

On Wednesday June 1, 2011, SEMO can exclusively reveal that the Stockholm Konserthuset will premiere the Nintendo tribute concert LEGENDS. Inspired by Symphonic Legends that occurred in Cologne last year,LEGENDS will provide an a more definitive tribute and plenty to discover with its new content and revised arrangements. It will feature symphonic arrangements of music from The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Donkey Kong Country, Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox, Pikmin, and Kirby, among others.

The concert will reunite the award-winning team from past concerts. Symphonic Legends producer Thomas Boecker will return to develop his concept of a Nintendo tribute concert, while Distant Worlds maestro Arnie Roth will conduct the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert will also feature performances from pianist Benyamin Nuss, who recently released his debut album.

Masashi Hamauzu, Roger Wanamo, and Jonne Valtonen were responsible for arranging music forLEGENDS. They have revised the existing arrangements from Symphonic Legends, partly to accommodate the larger orchestra of 90 musicians and large professional choir. They promise this will make the The Legend of Zelda Symphonic Poem even more impressive. Among the new arrangements are a suite dedicated to the Kirby series.

To coincide with the concert, there will be an exhibition at the Konserthuset, presenting the history of Nintendo. This will commemorate its iconic series and gaming console in an artistic manner. Together with the concert, it will celebrate '30 years with Nintendo'. There will also be a meet-and-greet after the concert, including with Arnie Roth. Tickets for the concert will go on sale on Thursday for the event at the concert hall's official website.

BTW if you missed out on the original Symphonic Legends performance, here are some of them to listen to. They are truly magnificent.

And then there's a whole 30 minute musical "poem" to the Legend of Zelda. Here's a clip that contains Zelda's lullaby...

Some of it sounds really good, will listen to the rest later.

I hope Legends turns out better than Symphonic Legends. SL was very nice in parts - the Ganondorf theme was spectacular - but a lot of it was so heavily arranged that I couldn't recognize it.

Wow really love the music, Nintendo is amazing!

Lucky I live in Sweden. There's no way I'm gonna miss this.

I wish I lived in Stockholm right now as I am too lazy to take the train or the plain from Malmo to see this…

Dude. It's worth it. =P Hearing the music live performed by an excellent orchestra is beyond understanding. I live in Gothenburg and we don't get many opportunities to listen to VG music here. We had Score last year and that's about it. Malmo at least have Joystiq.

While I did think the original Symphonic Legends was less than a perfect representation of Nintendo's musical oeuvre, and while some of the arrangements, like Jonne Valtonen's John Williams-esque treatment of the Zelda theme, were not ideal, it was still one of the best and most ambitious video game music concerts I've listened to, and, coupled with the local setting and excellent performers, I am quite willing to invest in this. Just the addition of a Kirby arrangement is enough to pique my interest, so this should be swell.
