Forums - Sales Discussion - So Vgchartz Pro has arrived...

I don't see what the big deal is. Its like PS plus, the free users stay with what they had, and the plus  users get more. Ill probably pay, just to help the site out.

What's going on isn't even that bad. A few cuts here and there but its overall the same content we're getting.

People are going to try and make a shi**torm out of it but eh, most don't like change.

The majority of data is still visible and free. Be happy.

$5000 per year?

(ioi said a yearly subscription would be in the thousands).

That's like 100 years of Xbox live subscription.

So they just took away half of the stuff (160 best-sellers less OMG they killed me >_<) to make it exclusive to publishers and the likes, without any way for us to get it back? I'm thunderstruck!

Potentially, I'm not sure how many would go for it though. Paying to do view sales data purely for enjoyment does seem a bit too much for most people.

That's the reason nearly all of the older users joined the site though. :-/

To pay to view sales data?

Actually, I think he meant to view sales data purely for enjoyment.

BTW ioi, even though we can view how a game is selling in it's 67th week for example in those graphics, is there a way we can see how much it sells weekly (not cumulative LTD)??

No to view sales data, which means the full top 200 and top by publishers and consoles. Maybe he meant that more people would pay just to view that data than you think, of course if it's not too expensive. And I agree, top 40 is just... not enough you see. :/

Wait ... VGC Pro is already in effect ?

Well it worked for alot of other sites, so im sure this is not going to stop. Why do we have to be in some kind of business to get pro? I just happen to have stock in EA or I would have nothing to help me sign up. I left showbizdata.com and billboard.com when they changed there content to pay, and hopefully they will not take too much away from here or the same thing will happen with alot of people. I will pay if the price is just a few bucks a month though. Maybe they should just get some better ads if they want more money? I mean most of these ads on here are the internets version of infomercials. Look at the IGN site! They always have top names on there advertisments. I just dont know.

You don't have to be in some kind of business but it is likely that only businesses (in other words people who want the data for financial gain) will be able to afford the subscriptions. We're talking the order of thousands of dollars per year not tens or hundreds.

On the subject of ads - we have had a great partner for the last 12 months with some hugely successful campaigns - on par with what you would expect at sites IGN. This will only continue but doesn't escape the fact that the data collection side of the business isn't viable on ad revenues alone.

Yea, you really have had some high profile ads.  I've even started to notice some Discover Card ads and whatnot.

One thing I have a question about, however, is the advertisements in the forums.  It has gotten to the point where I actually have to mute my computer when browsing forums because I've had as many as 4 advertisements begin automatically playing on a single page.  While I know that you need money from advertisements, with potentially a lot more money coming in, would it be possible to limit the auto play ads to 1 per page with the remaining ads as display ads?  It's just one of those small things that I think would make the experience better as I kind of like listening to music when browsing the internet, but have gotten to where I can no longer do that on the forums here.

Edit: Also, what browser is that you are using?

Strange, I don't get any ads at all for the foruns, only the ones at the main page appear (and the background ones).

Above: still the best game of the year.

Trust me, I get that. But it's been fine for the past few years, why change it now?

(I'm also intrigued by all the icons on the top left of the page. Pretty)

Aren't they in the top right of the site?

Above: still the best game of the year.
