In retrospect, its not how bad the brand is doing. More how unbelievably horrible PS3 did financially.

Are you implying Sony said PS3 will profit? Its just not gonna happen. The gaming division should continue to see some profits, but PS3 will never recoup its losses.

That's not how things work. Sure, comparing aligned launches can make sense up to a few months. But at this point in the generation it doesnt make sense.

The 360 launched earlier, which gave it an early lead, but gave rise to problems such as RROD, and allowed Sony to make the PS3 more powerful. All balances out by this stage of the generation

The thing about statistics is there is always someone trying to interpret it the way the want to.  The fact is Wii is way ahead, 360 is currently 2nd and PS3 3rd.  All of the consoles are doing very well.  If you align the launches then PS3 is ahead of 360.  But the fact that the 360 is doing as well as it is and the PS3 is trying to get to 2nd is something that no one had predicted when this all started.  PS2 came out well after the Dreamcast and look where it ended up.  Many people were predicting the same thing before the PS3 came out.  No one expected the Wii to run away the way it did.  Fact is Sony had the crown and lost it and now trying for runner's up.  In the end though being 3rd in this generation is nothing to be ashamed of as all consoles are doing amazing and getting alot of developer's support.

I'll take the alligned launches aspect, how about a PS3 in 2005 for $799?

A difference of 2.88 million between 2nd and 3rd is not bad. I still see the PS3 when all said in done to outship 360 ( i believe ps3 will be on the market longer than the 360). Besides all 3 machines are now profitable. And besides software on the PS3 with maybe a 1/3 of the PS2 userbase still manages to sell better than it had on the PS2. Examples would be god of war, uncharted, killzone, etc. Besides I think this is actually good for Sony. It really allowed them to step their game up. If 360 did not become so dominant with xbox live then i doubt psn would be where it is today. So all in all this gen has been good for all 3 console makers.

=O Stalker! I only put those up because my girlfriend said my living room looked too plain/girly (the ex decorated).  She works at gamestop so she gave me them to decorate with. I have since moved to a new house and no longer have those posters... so there!

I hate to be picky when your post is largely good but Killzone is the only one that has sold better on PS3 than PS2 and Uncharted itself wasn't even on PS2.
