It's the ultimate fight-off. The ultimate question. But one no-one seems to ask.
Which console, out of the PS3, Xbox360, and Wii, is your favourite? If you could only have 1 console, which would it be?
To make an informed decision, here's a promotional campaign by me for each console:
Wii
Nintendo's White Wonder Waggle Box. The little console that could. Just two of the names branded towards the Wii in the few years since it, against all odds, became the fastest selling home console of all time and revolutionised the gaming industry forever. But it wasn't just the motion controls which made the Wii such a success. Just because it wasn't as powerful as its cousins, it didn't mean it couldn't pump out some quality exclusives. Here's my top 5:
- Super Mario Galaxy (1&2)
- Monster Hunter Tri
- Goldeneye
- No More Heroes 2
- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Picking out only 5 games is an injustice to the system. It may have the most shovelware, and the 3rd party support was missing in its early years, but, well, there's some metaphor somewhere about getting the best you have to move through tonnes of rubbish (whoever thinks of the best one will forever be in my sig. Well, for 3 months anyway)
The Wii also made gaming accessible to the masses, and has been used in care-homes, businesses, the Army and to help Parkinson's disesase, to name a few uses.
The little console that could. Perfect.
Playstation 3
Before release, it was touted as the guaranteed winner of the gen. Whilst it may not have done that, there's no denying there's pedigree to the PS3. It has the best graphics of the consoles, some of the best advertisement you'll see, and it really does do everything, from Blu-ray to gaming to TV, and all that's in-between. Here's my top 5 games you need to own:
- Uncharted 2
- Grand Turismo 5
- Little Big Planet 2
- Ratchet and Clank: A crack in Time
- Metal Gear Solid 4
Arguably, this is the console with the best multi-plat support. It shares many, many games with the 360, but it also shares many Eastern games with the Wii, a mixture of Western and Eastern cultures makes this a well-rounded console
The Move attachment has also shown potential, taking what Nintendo had, and building on it. This now allows may other Wii-only games to jump onto Move, as well as adding that extra layer of immersion.
There's no denying that the PS3 only does everything.
Xbox360
Before the generation began, if you spoke to most people, they'd say that the 360 was doomed from the start. Although it was released before the other consoles, this proved to be both positive, and negative, as the infamous "Red Ring of Death" which plagued the system in its early years gave it an image which was, and still is, difficult to break. Here's my top-5:
- Gears of War 2
- Blue Dragon
- Halo:Reach
- Fable II
- Forza 3
Microsoft has been pioneering in many fashions as of late. For example, the "Xbox Live" service has revolutionised the way we gamers view online, and is still undoubtedly the king of online, which is why games such as COD are known as the best on this system
But Kinect, a new add-on this past year, has completely mixed things up. With improved reliability and amazing controls, it makes Kinect a potential rival for king.
A rightful winner. 360 is ready for the future.
I'm going for Wii. What about you?
