Yeah conspiracy, Capcom out to make an example so do not have to make anymore games for the Wii, it isn't just that the Wii cannot do them well or even at all, Capcom even willing to lose money to do make this sabotage happen.  Lets ignore MH3 that was design for Wii so will be decent on it.

This is Capcom, they love to port.  If they could have they would have.

I don't think it was sabotage or any conspiracy, just unfortunate decision making.

Capcom even said after seeing Cavia's work with DSC (with it's high quality models, widespread bump mapping, specular highlights and prebaked HDR), maybe a Wii version of RE5 could've been possible after all.  At that point it was obviously too late though, it's always easy to retroactively say they should've done something but at the time things just worked out differently.

Yeah it is good to see Capcom attempt to market DSC worked on some people.

Here's the quote from Capcom USA Product Manager Matt Dahlgren...

“At Resident Evil 5’s launch it was announced that a Wii version was not technically possible. But after some of the work that Cavia has done (with Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles), the producers of Resident Evil 5 over in Japan now think it is possible. Some of the light effects in the South America stage are pretty incredible. Whether it is going to come, I don’t know the answer to that question. But, it has been said that now at least it is possible.”

... seems less like an "attempt to market DSC" and more like a leading comment towards RE5 Wii (which Capcom USA PR was being routinely badgered over, along with SF4 Wii).  I doubt that happens though, not at this point.

Yeah Capcom played you good and proper.  Earlier quotes from him

"I don’t think Resident Evil 5 would transition well onto the Wii. This is our first time moving the franchise onto next generation consoles so this is our Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 debut and a lot of the focus with the developers was pushing that hardware as far as they could possibly take it. Some of our main points in the game are online co-op, absolutely amazing graphics, and the capabilities of the AI and the sheer number of enemies that can be on the screen at the same time."

Oh but two weeks before DSC releases (not months before when already knew how it looked) and suddenly he says DSC looks so good maybe even RE5 could be done too?  This is PR for DSC plain and simple.

Yes. You are right. It is PR. But it is PR for BOTH products.

The quote you supplied is clearly PR for RE5.  Also the infamous "title screen" comment. They know that the HD console owning audience WANTS to believe thay are playing games that simply could not be done on lesser hardware. It's why they bought said harware after all.

The fact is Capcom could do a "version" of RE5 for Wii. How good that version would be, and how close to the other versions, would depend entirely on the time and budget allocated and talent of the people working on it.

Why they refuse to, we can only speculate. It does seem odd though. I mean at the very least they could give us a non-on rails spin off of something. For some reason this has become a trend of 3rd parties on the Wii.

2011 and we are still talking about the notion of a Wii being two Gamecubes duck taped together.

Well when it comes to admitting they were wrong to doubt the Wii, and continuing to look like asses, they don't like to admit they were wrong.

BTW, RE5 on the Wi would graphically look like this, more or less:

Chortle!

Capcom doesn't mind owners of low-spec PCs playing RE5. But not Wii owners.

That does look about competent-3rd-party-Wii level.I also believe Capcom was just being lazy before.

I say so as well. The director of MHTri said that you need to think more about how to make environments look good, which says more artistic effort, even if less money and time.

So he accidentally told us that HD development is about artistic laziness (especially with the increasing sameness due to the need to grab large audiences to make up the of course increasing cost).

Yeah... Hey does anybody remember that one picture that shows 3 games with the same gun, same background and the 3 different titles and says something like "The gaming industry summarized in one picture"? I was looking for it a while ago and I couldn't find it and I remember seeing it here :(

There was also a video, that I can't remember who did, where a picture from a modern day FPS was shown, and the guy gave three possible answers, and, to prove the point, it was from yet another game.
