I don't understand why some people constantly expect Nintendo to overachieve.

It doesn't need saving. It's matching the sales of the PS3 and the 360, and is following a normal console cycle.

It's the PS3 and 360 that are having abnormal sales trends. The Wii is having a normal trend. It doesn't need saving, it just needs the natural decline being slowed down. Pricecuts/Colours/Bundles will do this.

Well I agree the wii is doomed it's only in the sense that an old man is going to die relatively soon, nintendo is just going to let it channel surf for awhile and when it finally croaks they are going to release a new console 

360 just basically had a new system launch with the Kinect and Slim version of their console, and yet they still can't outsell Nintendo. Sony released Move and yet they see YOY declines every week.

Meanwhile Nintendo had some relatively modest selling new releases, had no price cut, no new "Wii HD", and basically nothing really new and yet they are selling on par with Microsoft (which, again, basically had a new system launch with Kinect).

Who is really doomed here?

I think part of the reason people are setting the bar so high is because the Wii was trending ahead of the PS2 in the same time frame so back in 2008 and early 2009 it was probably widely assumed that it would end over the PS2 or at least close to it. But I don't think anyone expected the PS2 to have such insane legs in its twilight years.

The PS2 is a beast!  But on topic, IMHO i think we're in the twilight years of Wii.  Ninty's focus is on there new baby, so forget the old one. Motion been out for a while and has crappy support, from both 3rd and Ninty themselves, so I dont expect things to change. Online takes time to make better, I really dont expect Ninty to change it overnight, and from my years of having the WIi, it has seen no improvement in the online front, oh sure they have demos of WiiWare games but what about the retail ones??? You know the games that most people actually care about. 3rd parties were not giving Wii core games before why the hell would they start now, especially when their jumping on 3DS ship. Localization of games could be possible but that takes time and who the hell knows when or if they will even start. So we wont see those games anytime soon. im gonna enjoy the few good Wii games that are coming and let the system die with some dignity

oh and I think its absolutely crappy that we have not had a new Mario Tennis/and or Golf. Those games are tailor made for motion control I mean, you had that damn Strikers and that wasnt even all that

If the wii was a normal console and I mean like a stronger gamecube than yes I'll beleive this but it isn't. THe wii is a revlutionary product that  still has no motion based games that use it save wii sports and resort. If nintendo were to release a new console it won't launch due til say late 2012 the earliest.  and than we got no games for it. What wil launch with it? Wii sports 2? zelda is no ,galaxy 3 will probably come a year or so. No metroid, kirby is on wii,(miss anything?)  NOT only that but it takes 2-3 years for games to be made, Motion plus games aren't even ready yet. We should get some info on them this E3 or the next one. Also are you expecting a new console from sony or MS? No ps3 just hit 300 dollars which is the launch price of the ps2, crazy and microsoft marked kinect as a rebranding and stated that it will last til 2015 

What do you think I meant when I said nintendo is going to let wii channel surf for awhile, wii's sales will continue to decline and nintendo is going to focus on 3DS until it's sales are virtually nothing then release a new console, late 2012 at the earliest more likely 2013 after that MS will release a new console soon but I'm not sure of Sony since the ps3 is so future proof it might beable to compete with the other two systems either way wii is on the decline and I don't see the decline stopping
