the just rolled out docsis 3 in my area last summer, i bought a  docsis 3 modem, and went form around 17 to 28, then uped my service plan to the top tier, it was 69.99 a month, and got a boost to 57 or so, about a month later comcast calls saying that if i agree to having basic non digital cable (i cut cable a year ago) i can have everything for 59.99, though about it but declined, a month after that they called offered for 49.99, decided i could live with that. when they added the tv my service droped to around 14 megs, i called them up they had changed the service code incorectly and noted that the old code had been worng too, sent a new boot file out to the modem, and since then its been as above, they told me in my area right now they are not capping anyone on the top tier with docis 3, and they are adding the ability to have more bonded channels so i could see the speed go up.

Wow, complete opposite up here, fastest we can get is 50mb/s with 120gig/month cap at 99.99 ca plus tax.   And on top of that they keep cutting the service down for the same prices.

Sounds like you are getting a pretty decent deal.  I am a little out of the loop but are they starting to cap in USA / certain markets in USA?  The whole net neutrality thing blew right over my head since it wasn't too clear to me what they were trying to do in the first place with that.

I just got my new cable isp hooked up and it is working as advertised.  I am happy that my internet is over 3x faster than previous service for same price.  I wish I could get about 3-5 mbps upload so I can host CoD:BO without any lag.  However, with the new service I was able to host a game today while not lagging anyone too bad (pretty much everyone was green) when before it would have almost everyone red if it was a 5v5 match.   Only problem was CoD froze during one of the matches but that was the games' fault not isp.

supposedly i have a 250 gig cap, ive never hit it, but ive come close comcast has never talked to me about it. im have a minecraft server operating out of my place now od the 6-7 up has been nice, but its created the od situation where my uploads outstrip my downloads, ive often wondered if that would get me singled out as a torrenter despite not torrenting, or if they (comcast) pays attention to what ports im using.ive never seen any indication in firewall logs to show they are probing

there are only an few 100 people that upload pirated stuff on the internet in the world and i am sure they would all use public computers and an whole heap of proxy servers. Also you wouldn't be alone because there would be tonne of people running dedicated servers and web servers at home

It's horribly overpriced. There is no excuse good enough for the piss poor service that is available.

I dunno... I mean...

It's a giant country and the cost it would take to make sure most people had very highspeed internet would be unbelievably expensive and almost definitly have to be a fully government funded process that would then likely just be handed over to telecom companies for free because the government is alergic to running anything for a profit.

Seems like an ok reason to me.

America isn't that bad. Australia costs more and has caps.

I pay $99.95 a month for 400gb data 24mbit ADSL2 , which syncs at 15mbit anyway.

i pay 70 for 50 gb and 20 mbps but i end up with 4mbps. And i got an new adsl2 rounter. An new adsl2 filter but i am still losing that 16 mbps. I dont even reach the 10 mbps average. Well i live in an old suburb

I'm with TPG and get 500gig for $60, connection usually around 15mbps and they have better deals than this now if you are a new customer.  Worth checking out if you are in a position to change contracts.

BTW the latest news on the National Broadband Network is that now it will be a 1Gbps service, with ~95% of the population expected to have connection speeds of >100mbps.  Here's to hoping.
