Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony drops 20GB PS3 in North America.

It seems that even though the 60GB version was shipped 5:1 to the 20GB, it sold 10:1. So Sony doesn't see much point in selling it.

Say what one will about the Core 360, you could still get anything you wanted seperately. The 20GB coulnd't do that.

Now don't think this is bashing the PS3. Sony made this decision. I'm just pointing it out and, why I think they did.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

So how long till the 60gb Ps3 is toast too?

People complain about the price and still they dont buy the 20GB version. Wifi and "memoryslots" must mean alot for them. But still I find it wierd that 60GB is selling at 10-1 ratio :S.

If the 60GB model was shipped 5 to 1 compared to the 20GB model, and the 60GB model outsold the 20GB model 10 to 1, wouldn't that mean (being that there are 60GB models on store shelves) you could actually find a 20GB model on store shelves or online?

Edit: Basic logic tells us that (since the 20GB model was in a constant sell-out position) it had a higher demand than Sony was shipping units. The fact is Sony is dropping the unit because they lose more per units from this model than from the 60GB model.

If nobody could find them in the stores, how could they buy it?

I always figured that "IF" I ever got around to actually buying a PS3 I would go with the 20GB model just on the fact that it was $100 cheaper. There was nothing in the 60GB model that I really cared about that was worth the extra $100.

On top of that it was bad enough that the 20GB PS3 was $100 more then the Premium Xbox360, but now there is a $200 price differnce between the top of the line Xbox360 and the Only PS3.

Just think of what a average person or even an average gamer is going to see when they go to the store. When you look at the PS3 and then look over at the Xbox360 and see pretty much the same game library your going to see that you can get a Xbox360 for $300 vs a PS3 for $600. What do you think most people are going to pick up?

This just seems like a really bad move to me.

Currently playing:
Wii: MySims | Xbox360: Halo3 / Pac-Man C.E | DS: Scurge | PSP: Ghost in the Shell

"Lesbians, Better then eMail."
~Lanky Man - My Big Fat Independent Movie

If they dropped the premo version by $100 along with this announcement it would have been better.

You know what I would find funny?

If Microsoft came out and reduced the price of the Priemium XBox 360 to $300 and advertized it as "Half the price of the PS3" ...

people arent bums... and whent they spent money they usully want top of the line.

majority of 360 sold are premium, core will be discontinued soon enouth.

So people who buy 30GB iPod Videos, or 2GB/4GB iPod Nanos are bums because they decided to save money by not spending extra money on features they wouldn't use?

The fact is that there are probably a lot of consumers who would rather buy a game and an extra controller than 40GB of disc space and wifi.
