I understand that having a portable PS3 sounds cool in theory, but isn't that a bit redundant? I dunno about you guys but I like my home console and handheld experiences to be different. Sure, people who are really into trophies will probably eat this up but what about the average consumer?

psp2 has a touch screen, gyro accelators(or whatever theyr called), its not a ps3. yes its going to have ps3 ports. but its not the ps3 experience going handheld, its using aspects of the ps3 to improve, and to make it more social.

The touch screen and cameras are the only new features and they've both been present in many other devices so far. The gyroscope, while probably much more accurate than six axis, is still of a similar ilk to the PS3's controllers. It has potential for sure however this feels very similar to the PSP to me. Was I the only one who was half expecting Sony to actually be ballsy and try something outside the box?

And yet the GameCube still lost 7:1 against the ps2 despite "Nintendo games" ;) Lolz xD

If Nintendo intend to make GC games then all is lost for 3DS, but hopefully they've learned their lesson, which made them a game publisher as big as it's four closest competitors combined in home and portable console business from just a big publisher among equals in 2005. Or to put it differently every fourth dollar spend on home and handheld games in 2009 is spend on Nintendo games. And we all know that Sony is unable to develop really big franchises despite quite more funding and people involved into development, they were unable to make anything at the scale of GT for 15 years even at their heyday, which makes them completely dependant on third parties, which is no good given present situation that's no way close to PS2 vs GC or even PSP vs DS.

It does take a brave man to bet against Nintendo, and I think I also agree that the 3DS should win sales wise, but I don't think it'll be as clear cut as the DS vs PSP - albeit that's more because I simply see the 3DS not having a hope in hell of selling like the DS, whereas the PSP2 looks well poised to do similiar numbers to the PSP.

While Sony so far has shown the PSP2 similiar to doing the PSP strategy, there are upsides to this. They'll see alot more software support (If it's true that for eg Lost Planet 2 took 2 weeks to port to the device) and it does allow them to create software that distinguishes itself from the rising phone games market. It's worth remembering that not every game is going to be an Uncharted or Killzone, that the Android IoS will lead to more 'portable' style of games priced appropriately and that Sony will inevitably 'show off' the big, graphical behemoths first as that's the systems biggest selling point.

Further to this, I think Nintendo's current strategy with the 3DS can be critiqued as similiar to the PSP's anyway. Unlike the DS - which sold on having a touch screen and being accessible to anyone, the 3DS's biggest selling point has been 3D - something that makes games look prettier... just like the PSP2's biggest selling point. Further to this, outside of Nintendogs 2, their software line up is very 'console centric' too - Zelda:OoT, MGS3, Street Fighter, Dead Or Alive, Paper Mario, Starfox 64 etc...

I think the PSP2 has potential but whether it can hit it depends on what Sony does from here, and how they treat the device in the next 2 years. For me the PSP's biggest downfall is after a solid launch, software support simply dried up and they didn't have enough to keep the userbase enticed, so eventually people stopped buying software (Obviously PIracy didn't help). Sony need to consistently release games that actually get any marketing, we'll see.

I can envision bomberman and pilotwings being great for on-the-go gaming.

Maybe, but people would be quick to write off pilotwings as a 'console' type game seeing as all it's previous iterations were on consoles. Otherwise yanno, I could argue they'll make a handheld friendly resistance, or killzone or something.

Bomberman could be okay but PSP will inevitably have a downloadable version for like $10 on PSN, and I'd guess 3DS will eventually too...

All im trying to say is that no company is invincible. the ps3 was supposed to be unstoppable because of how well ps1 and 2 had done. 3ds is supposed to be unstoppable because of how well DS and GB did. And yet things often dont turn out that way. Thats all im trying to say xD

Yeah i know my spelling sucks but im dysgraphic so live with it :3

where does it state Sony is taking a loss for the PSP2 ?

if this is true, can someone reitarate something for me ? has/does every single manufactor loose money on new consoles ? and did Son loose money on the launch of the PS2 ? or is just in the new gen ps3/PSP2 (if what you guys are saying is true about them loosing money on the PSP2 that is... )

Sony lost money on PS2 , PSP and PS3. Microsoft lost money on Xbox and 360.

Selling the PSP2 at loss is hardly a news.

Lol PS3 is the only one they sold at a loss :P

I don't really think anyone thought the PS3 would be unstoppable after the $599 pricetag. I could definitely be wrong but everyone I knew thought that was a mistake and it turned out to be a big one. Before the price announcement? It was a juggernaut but afterwards it became mortal again.

Not true. They surely lost money on the PS2 hardware in the early days.

As for a winner... 3DS most likely.

what their are dual analog sticks, and the touch buttons on the back. also its going to have a cloud system and 3g(im ot sure if its pad subscription) and multiple ways to play a game(according to ign in the uncharted demo you can use butons or the touch screen an buttons). other then that its going to have trophies

and thats not ballsy?

Being in 3rd place never felt so good
