Yea, even though its hacked, I think Sony has added something where they can detect if anything is out of the ordinary, so it will only help people offline now for pirating games, not online, which is all that really matters to me.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

It is a big win for SONY to keep the thieves offline, of course the next step for SONY will be to release a hardware update that prevents offline hacking as well. When that happens it should minimize any growth in the piracy sector for PS3.

A hardware update will not be so easy.    Basically they would have to change their entire security setup and that would cause major problems with the way their old systems work.  Basically software would have to work with both new and old security and thats not an easy feat.  and I seriously doubt it would happen any time soon.

It is slightly complicated, but its wouldn't require an entirely new security setup. It would require an extension of the current security with the holes closed and allow current PS3's to ignore the additional security measures. Hell i am pretty sure SONY will do this, the only catch is how long will it delay the next hardware revision and price drop?

The way Sony has fixed keys is whats causing the problem from my limited understanding.  And the only way to fix it is to change that.  And I don't see a basic extension doing so.  So again I believe it would require mostly new setup with a security key that isn't fixed/predictable.

Yeah, like Apple is strugggling with their AppStore, Microsoft is having a lot of problems with Xbox Live Marketplace, and Nintendo's WiiWare is dying, all because of those hackers...

Xbox is having no problem with the marketplace, as far as I have heard Sony is the one having problems, but whatever the problem it will grow if it has a foothold

Seriously, the law can say anything about jailbreaking but as long as your system has REAL security (instead of constants in key places, seriously Sony, WTF...) there should be no problem...

No, if you read those little terms and conditions it says you can't do what you clearly do.

I support doing to your bought hardware whatever you want, at your own risk, if the console bricks, if they ban you from online, etc. that's on you...  And people that use those mods to piracy (which is illegal) or to ruining other people's gaming experience deserve what they get...

But why i have to apologize or get prosecuted for 1. Buying a product (hardware), 2. Doing mods to it,the console is not it began with by owners right, thus not being the console anymore 3. Sharing my knowledge about modding it??? Did i steal something??? yes, stealing a version of a game to be sold, the game is made you should buy it. otherwise stealing. no, did i share info about stealing something??? no (although, that's not entirely illegal no but the stealing part is), did i cheat online??? no... So i did nothing wrong... Because you didnt cheat online but you illegally modified the console STILL means you did something wrong, don't dillude yourself on any different.
