Forums - Sony Discussion - DCUO SOE’s “Fastest Selling Game Ever”

Very good. I love the game, even with a few small issues which i am sure they will fix in the first bunch of updates.

Faster than the Everquest games? Damn, well done!

Truth be told, SOE hasn't had many games that sold all that quickly ...

Everquest built a large userbase over a very long time, and Everquest 2 struggled initially because it was released at the same time as World of Warcraft (which was widely considered the better game); and they have had a lot of games that simply failed to attract much of a market, like Planetside and Vanguard Online.

With that said, while I think DCUO is SOE's best game ever my opinion of the game is fairly mixed; and many of the things that I find less appealing to me are also the things that I suspect were put in place to make this game better suited to the PS3 and its audience.

I still have to say EverQuest 1 is SoE's best MMO, if not the best MMO simply because of what it did (virtually everything) for the genre.

but EQ1 will never attract a new audience because of its graphics and very very un freindly noobie experience due to being 12 years old.  But the end game is...Completely unparralelled in amazingness.  (this comming from an EQ-EQ2-WoW-Vanguard-Aika veteran)

Of those WoW was the least memorable.

...uhh...ill just put my favorite quote of all time here.

"Welcome to Pain, the second of three...You have dealt the first...now deal with me!!"

Greati just hope people don't abandon this game anytime soon.

Just about the only thing that early MMO games (Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron’s Call) had over World of Warcraft was they were far more social games; primarily because of their brutal difficulty level required people to work together to accomplish anything in the game. Unfortunately, this social aspect also had a very negative side being that if you choose the wrong class your character could be ostracized.

On a related note, this is probably my biggest complaint with DCUO ... Being that players can play and complete the vast majority of content in the game without ever interacting with other players, there is almost no social interaction in the game. This might change when I reach the level cap, but now it just feels like a single player RPG that just happens to have other people playing it at the same time.
