Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii Not Reading Game Discs

My Wii is not reading my game discs anymore.  I think the culprit is very clear - my baby son.  I could see food particles inside the disc loading slot.  Think he must have taken it upon himself to chuck his biscuits in there.  I tried to clean them out but that did not fix it (there is probably much more inside which I cannot see).

Does anyone know if there is a way to fix it or is my Wii dead to disc based games and now only a Virtual Console/Mii Contest machine?

Would one of those dvd cleaner discs work?  Should I try opening it up and cleaning it out?

Any ideas?

If you're so inclined, try opening it. You can get the triwing screwdrivers really cheap. This way you can accurately see what's in there. Just make sure all power is off and I definitely wouldn't continue to use it at all until you check that out as it will become far worse than a possible dirty lens if you do.

"Chuck his biscuits" is a euphemism for vomiting if I've ever heard one.

Your gonna have to take apart the Disc drive within the system itself too and clean that.  If that fails, all hope is lost.

If you're positive it's solid filth, you could try opening it up, and then if that screws up the disc drive further, just send it to Nintendo (for $90 :/)

You could try not having kids.

I have tried openning systems in the past, I could never fix them. To be honest you might have to send the system into Nintendo. Has your warranty expired? If your warranty has not expired do not open the system as that voids your warranty. if it has expired and you really can't afford to send it to Nintendo, maybe open it up. But in the end I'm not going to give you false hope you probubly will have to send it to Nintendo to be fixed.

Lol I actually switched on to join the races only to discover my Wii was not working.

You Wii realised you suck so bad at MK, it decided to kill itself.
