Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Will 'Regret' $249 Pricing on 3DS, says Pachter

Just looked and didn't see this in any thread sooo..

Just took the main point y u wanna read the rest go to the source.

Pachter took the pricing theme one step farther, noting that Nintendo in some ways is betraying its shareholders. "I'm impressed that they had the confidence to charge $249; I think that they're going to regret it. It's going to sell out and they're leaving money on the table. I'm impressed that they're this consumer friendly – that really matters. So it's not shareholder friendly, but consumers are going to love the $249 price point. We can call bullsh*t on Reggie [Fils-Aime] a lot, but I actually agree with him. If you explain the feature set to most consumers, they would say $300 or more. So $249 is a bargain, and I think this thing is going to be on eBay for $500 immediately," he said.

Really? 2 Patcher Nintendo related news in one week. I think the price is fair enough. Nobody puts a price so that ley lo0se money 'because the 3ds will sell, there's no denial in that.

Do you think he is right?

He really wants Nintendo to charge even more? I think he just wants Nintendo stop being competative over the systems he wants to win.

the 3ds is NOT shareholder friendly.....$299 would have been a better price for investors.

$249 is too low IMO as well

People would easily for over another 50 bones for this magical device

He's saying that until Nintendo can provide enough inventory to meet demand, they're leaving money on the table for each unit sold, which is absolutely correct.

The initial going price through the holiday 2011 season on Ebay will either confirm this (most likely) or Nintendo was just about right on as far as estimating and matching production rates to consumer demand.

This is exactly what he's referring to.

The problem with a lot of posters on here is that they're only thinking like end consumers.

While I'm not all up in arms over the more consumer friendly $249 price, unlike most people with strong opinions about 3DS pricing, I'm actually an NTDOY shareholder.

$300 would be a huge gamble.

While it's true that Nintendo could initially sell the handheld at that price and it would still sell out, it's highly probable that sales would stall pretty soon after the launch period, forcing Nintendo to drop the price within the first year of availability. Quick price drops devalue products, because consumers expect further price cuts in the not to distant future. More people holding out obviously results in lower sales.

But most importantly, what Pachter is forgetting about is that every $50 less spent on the hardware itself can potentially go to software and that's where the real money is.

I don't often do this but......

This!

No! How could we think like the people that put Nintendo back on top? It's a good thing Nintendo doesn't, or else we would be denied crap like Other M.

$249 is fine. Simply put pricing your product is dicey situation. Going to high on price is can be a boon for competing products, one only has to look at the PS3 to see this.

i think i actually might agree with him for once....(but in the opposite way) i think alot of pople will wait for it to drop in price before they buy it

You should congratulate me. I destroyed the vile red falcon and saved the universe. I consider myself a hero.

I thought he was going to bitch about expense, but he's bitching about cheapness?

At least he's keeping consistent with his previous admonitions about Nintendo under-pricing Wii, which was true economically, though i'm grateful they did :)
