The title of this thread says it all... Why dint they do this when the iphone got jailbroken? For that matter like the original post in this chain said why not with the 360? The only reason they are doing it now, is because this is such a hot issue.... This is dirt cheap PR and its working.... Its like people are blinded I swear....

I have a feeling nothing is going to change your mind. Though I will give it one more stab.

Apple didnt do that because because of this guy the law has changed so you can legally jail break your phone. Apple is kinda pissed, it means thier app store is now free to get free stuff off it LEGALLY! that is the point. Apple didnt want a draw they wanted to win, they didnt.

MS hasnt had a system hacked yet. If it will be they want it on their own terms. If you give the man the tools he is likely to come at you with them. Nothing is pointing to a PR stunt.

This hacking thing is not common knowledge to your common person that doesnt visit gaming sites. Ms is not trying to be "cool" as you so eloquently put it. And the title is back in my main point they are "embracing" him to stop the carnage.

I think this guy just doesnt like barriers, if you remove the barriers there is none to smash down is there.

Bolded: That was kind of a joke cause..... Sony.... nvm...

Its LEGAL to jailbreak phone.... Not PS3... not yet anyways... MS is just trying to get in the spotlight with this crap....

There is no single proof in what you are saying you are simply repeating "they are using it as a pr stunt" or some variation.

Show me solid reasons why what I am proposing is such bollocks. No-one said it is legal to jail break ps3. No MS is not trying to get into the spotlight, again there is no proof that this is the case. You are spouting nonsense.

Show any reasonsable proof or reasoning then it might make more sense. But what it looks like is MS is using this for spotlight.. because... see I don't even know why you are proposing it. It doesn't make any sense.

Thats why Microsoft did this man! Do you honestly think that they would do this now if Apple won that case? Really?

MS has nothing to loose because its LEGAL to jailbreak phones. PS3 is another story though.

This hacking thing is not common knowledge to your common person that doesnt visit gaming sites. Ms is not trying to be "cool" as you so eloquently put it. And the title is back in my main point they are "embracing" him to stop the carnage.
Embracing would be to offer him a job or something... not send him a piece of plastic and announce it to the world that you did to make it seem like you're the good guy..

I think this guy just doesnt like barriers, if you remove the barriers there is none to smash down is there.
KK. So lets take all security down from everything to please the mighty Geohotz.

There is no prof its just my humble opinion but i will elaborate:

1. If Apple were to win that jailbraking case than MS wouldnt touch this with a 10 foot pole.
2. This PS3 jailbreak has been getting A LOT of press... be it online... why not send a $600 dollar gadget to be a part of this buzz?
3. By doing this it may seem like they are embracing him but no one wants their system jailbroken. I'm gonna go with thats fact. This is a good way to get people on your side (people who like free stuff lets just say.... and "arrrggg booty")

To me it sounds like they are trying to get Geohot to somehow accept the phone and work for them before he or someone else breaks the phone wide open.

At least that's what I get out of it.

I mean, it pretty much says just that in the quote. Don't crack our phone, we'll pay you not to.

The case was unwinnable pretty much, Apple contested it pretty much on behalf of phone manufacturers. It was on principle more than possible winning.
2. This PS3 jailbreak has been getting A LOT of press... be it online... why not send a $600 dollar gadget to be a part of this buzz?

Becasue from the looks of it the natural thought of it would be PR. They couldn't gain true PR from this if people have the same feelings as you

Nope no one does want their phone jail broken, but if it is going to happen you may as well not fight it.

He'll do it anyway, you clearly don't understand the hackers mentality. I have hacked the last two phones I owned, my Xbox, and my camera...just for fun.
