Forums - Gaming Discussion - Mass Effect 2 PS3/360 DF Face-Off

The light comments are strange. On 2 of those comparison pics its easy to understand why Bioware may have wanted to change the lighting. Look at the 2 pics with the shepeard face. One side of the face is very luminous while the other side is as dark as if there was no light. The lighting on the new engine is more realistic. Other than that, its a great article, they go in details.

Has anyone played this yet? How is the frame rate during gameplay and during cutscenes?

Wow the new engine looks awesome in ports, but as people have said 360 does beat it in other areas. Mostly going to ps3 but 360 puts in a hell of a fight.

I can't really fricken pick. Their are times when both look better than the other.

This is where the content is key (which really again, you can't go wrong with either version). If I didn't already own the 360 version, however, I would pick up the PS3 version of the two.

But why, when you could pick up the 360 version for $20? You could buy all the expansion packs for the 360 and its still cost less than $60 for the PS3 edition. Plus it performs better on the 360 too.

Here is a small game for you guys.

Which version of the game is this:

Try to answer without looking at OP again.

Xbox 360. Ps3 has very little shadows on the face which looks better in some shots but less in shots like this.

Really we should be looking at Mass Effect 3's graphics between the two consoles later this year.

I prefer the PS3's controller and like the look of that version, not to mention, I'd have everything, and then some, right at my disposal. Also, the performance differences are minimal at best, and there are areas where the PS3 outperforms the 360 version.

And there are areas where the 360 outperforms the PS3.  As far as I see it the comparison is a wash, which is a good thing.  To me the biggest difference for now is the price difference.

360, based on the shadowing and general lighting.

OT:

Good comparison. Only the very slightest tiniest edge to the 360, which I think is probably offset by the one-disc-has-it-all thing.

It's just a shame that PS3 owners can't play ME1.

Guess that's the best way to tell the difference.

Just so. I'm actually confused by the lack of shadowing in the PS3 version, it makes things feel somewhat less stark and more artificial.

This was a good read, thanks for the find CGI.

I am interested in why you would choose the PS3 version over the 360 version as you already played and finished ME1 on the 360?

You know I'm not trying to start no flame war or anything like that, I just really am interested as to why you wouldn't want to continue the story as the Shepard that you built/designed, etc in ME1?

Personally, the part I liked most about ME1 was the personalization.  How do you chose to respond to the numerous paragon/renegade scenarios.  How you chose to make the tough choices like the one with Alenko and Ash, or if you were bad ass enough, or pagagon-y (??) enough to talk Wrex down and save him.  Whom did you pursue a relationship with, etc, etc.

These decisions and the time I spent on ME1 made Shepard MY character.  Giving that up...for a few quick choices in an interactive comic book...well I think that would ruin the experience for me.  Hell, I even kept Shepard looking the same when I imported him for my latest play through.

Anyway, I know everyones different so I'm just wondering what advantage you would see to buying the PS3 version over continuing on the 360?

I didn't transfer my ME save over to the sequel. Not that I didn't like the option, I just didn't use it.

I really became comfortable with the PS3's controller when playing the demo and like having all the DLC in one place. Mind you, this would ONLY be if I didn't already own the 360 version, and where I pick up ME3 is still up in the air (though I'm leaning towards the 360 right now).

Really?  Wow that was one of the coolest features for me!

Regardless, different strokes for different folks, I understand.  As far as to controller preference, hey I absolutley here you there (even if my preference is the opposite), for a game you are going to spend a ton of time, the more comfortable the controller, the better.  Anyway, just interested, peace!

You missed the point. The few areas where one outperforms the other are minuscule at best and hardly worth harping over. If I didn't already own the 360 version, the content availability and controller preference would dictate the purchase (especially seing as I own and beat ME1 already and didn't need/worry about using my ME save.

I want to buy the PS3 version at this point to mainly play through the game again and have all the DLC (which I didn't pick up on 360). However, I'll buy it when it's $30.

Actually I think you missed my point.  I'm agreeing that the differences between the two are minuscule.  The biggest difference for now is the price difference.   For $30 you could buy the DLC available on 360 right now.

im probably going to pick up the ps3 version when its the same price as the 360 version. I already own mass effect 1 and mass effect 2 for 360 but I want to play the dlc so ill probably buy ps3 version eventually.
