Hm? All in all, I'm just counting games that are added to each console's million sellers list, regardless of when the game was released. As long as the game hit the million point in 2011, it will be added to the list. So I will be adding LBP2 once it hits a million (shouldn't be too far away), as well as a game like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (which came out 2009), since both will finally sell over a million units this year.

The wording is confusing. But all I'm doing is keeping track of how many games are being added to each console's list of games that have sold over 1,000,000. Just dividing it up into years (and a sort of competition).

Thanks for that correction! Yeah... this was pretty much a copy/paste from the 2010 version haha. Seems I didn't change all of the 2010's.

Yeah I get that, but you're counting games that have already passed the million mark, but are going to pass it again (as in sold 1 mill in 2011)?

Seems like a funny combo to me! I'd either do games that sell 1 million copies in the year 2011, or games that pass the 1 mill mark lifetime, combined just .. I don't see how it works.

All I see is a thread from someone who did the exact same thing last year, looking for it to be as successful again this year. However, since we're only 2 weeks into the year, it makes this task very difficult...

its really confusing and its a misleading thread title.

I think by "million seller" he means the games which passed the Million mark this year, so that game would count as one

For example, last year, Monster Hunter Tri was counted, even though it sold only 700,000 (ish) copies in 2010. But since it satrted the year on 900,000, it passed it in 2010, hence it was counted in 2010.

Many games on this list, and previous lists, haven't actually sold 1,000,000 in that calender year. If they did the year before, they also wouldn't be counted.

Get it?

  • As far as the thread point, The PS3 is going to have the highest quantity this year between the HD consoles, but total sales will be Wii, 360, PS3.

I think he is just counting lifetime.  The combo would be silly/odd for sure.

That way it only has to have 1 sale to be a million-seller

Oh ok I didn't know Smeags also included that. I thought it was strictly for sales of 2011.

Hey I just have a quick question.

If a game from 2010 sells 900 thousand and then crosses over into the 1 million mark in 2011, but also sells 1 million more in 2011 will it be counted twice?

to me this is just adding up apples with oranges...i mean what's the point of counting titles that have to sell a fraction of 1M to get the first milestone along with titles that have already achieved this goal but have to sell 1M in the solar year to enter this chart?

you should actually choose either

1)count sales in solar year for every title and add the ones that manage to sell at least 1M in 2011 starting from 1st jan till 31st dec

or

2)count the titles that pass 1M milestone in the solar year (both new and already released title)

if you choose the 1st option you should count out titles like GTA: episodes for PS3...if you choose the 2nd option you should count out all the titles that has already achieved the 1M milestone in the previous years (eg: Kineckt adventures)

 

In othe words you can choose between counting sales (1st options) and counting milestones (2nd option) but a mixture of these criteria makes no sense at all.
