Did you even read the article I posted? I'm not saying that articles or books ever have more than one space, and it has nothing to do with what is standard. If 88% of the people in the world started doing meth, does that mean I should do meth as well? I'm saying that using the writing standard that is common (In the schools I have attended anyways), it states that while it is becoming much more common to use one space, there is nothing wrong with using two spaces.

Wow, never noticed people does that. Why would anyone do that, anyway?
Also, you know what drives me insane? When people use "your" instead of "you're"... Specially when this mistake is done by people from English-speaking countries.

I was taught to use two spaces LONG before I learned to type. When I was a little kid, it was always 'one finger-space between words, two finger-spaces after a sentence.'
I could never do two spaces between sentences. Something about it just reminds me of RED all over MS Word. I had a professor who told us to do this, but I declined. Personally, I never had to worry about length in a paper anyway...

If I can recall correctly, the justification teachers used is that there is one space after commas and words, so putting 2 spaces makes it much clearer that a new sentence is starting, despite there being a period to indicate that. |
yeah I think that is what we were taught as well only about 5 years ago. Even before I was taught to type properly though word always complained with the green squiggly line if you only used one space after a full stop.
Just checked out in word, doesn't seem to do that any more. May be a bit hard to drop the habit though now that it is programmed into me. I don't even know if I want to. Looks really squashed when I don't put 2 spaces in.
