Forums - Sales Discussion - The Official NPD Dec 2010 Thread (Nov 28-Jan 1, data at 6:30 PM ET)

It's not terrible for Wii just extremely overtracked here. Im still surprised it managed to be number 1 for december even after being last in NPD september and without a pricecut.

1.9 million is great of Microsoft, but not great for their  industry taking over plans.

With all the money put into selling Kinect. In the 2 months of it launch you only get 3.2 million system sold.

Nintendo sold almost 4 million Wiis in Dec alone last year on the power of a game. Now with just games they have won the month.

By 500k, if what MS is saying IS true, that they used all Jan and Feb stock up and STILL ran out, I imagin without shortages 360 could have taken the month, which is the true reflection of demand.

With enough to make up for the year. Making them the best selling console for the year. Also if Kinect software is really selling so well. Why are they not charting in the NPD. It seems to me people would rather play Wii casual games. Just Dance and Michael Jackson.

Perception and Facts are too different things. The Perception of Microsoft and Kinect is that they are turning the tide. The facts are they haven't gain any ground. At least here in the US gaming Market!

Also my broke my jaw laughing at GT5 numbers in the US. Once again Sony's Savor doesn't deliver! Maybe Heroes on the Move will do it! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sales of Nintendo's Wii, however, suffered a 38% dive to just 2.36 million units in December, down from 3.81 million a year earlier. Sony's PS3 also declined, albeit less precipitously. It sold 1.21 million PS3s in December, down 11% from 1.36 million.

Terrible Wii numbers...

Because it didn't get close to the all-time record set last year? O_O

No, we knew that wasn't happening, but it would've been nice if it got over 3mil or at least close.

I didn't live up to my own expectations.

Ouch... More overtracked than 360... Below 2.5m, too.

Yeah...  Below 3mil = disappointment to me.

Below 4m=disappointment to me, actually.

Doesn't really matter though. A forced price cut next year won't hurt - they can afford it. That should help sales pick up.

“These are my principles; if you don’t like them, I have others.” – Groucho Marx

Three of the top five best-selling games of December play exclusively on Nintendo systems. These include Just Dance 2 from Ubisoft at No. 1, Donkey Kong Country Returns ™ : from Nintendo at No. 3 and Disney Epic Mickey from Disney Interactive Studios at No. 4. For all of 2010, 13 of the top 25 best-selling games play on Nintendo systems. This includes two of the top five; five of the top 10; and nine of the top 15.

Wii - 2.36 million
PS3 - 1.21 million

PS3 is doomed, lol

That's pretty good going for PS3, a small YoY drop. Impressive.

Thanks for numbers also, spot on PS3, 800k off on Wii?

The Wii is quite overtracked, I really think had MS had enough consoles, it would have outsold it. I am surprised at the PS3 numbers, i expected less than a million.

Yeah I agree, it doesn't reallly matter that much though. They all did well but it's a much more even playing field now. It's a bit scary having 2 consoles do 1.3 and another doing 3.8 .. I like these sales more.

Meh Wii numbers :/

At least Epic Mickey did great (or dk was overtracked :/ )
