Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft ran out of consoles at the end of December, Jan/Feb supply tight

Should still be around 2m at least. We'll see in exactly 24 hours I suppose.

Would it result in adjustments if it is lower than what we have? (same applies to all consoles) or are we going to wait until shipment data released by Nintendo (since they give detail in most areas).

Ugh, MS should really know how to judge demand by now, shortages is not a good enough excuse.

No offense to you, but I think microsoft themselves didn't see this high of a demand seece. Don't you remember them thinking kinect would only sell 3 million?

So they say? Maybe cynical of me but I think they realised 3 mill was too low.

They were banking on Kinect being the next big thing (could well be by looks of things) so should have estimated better.

Not saying they didn't low ball in predictions, but lets just assume they were like 3 million low end, and 5 million high end. This still shatters them...and I honestly believe they thought they wouldn't do higher than 5 million. I know I don't like kinect, so maybe that is why I didn't see it doing 7 million , but honestly speaking if you told me that it would do above 5 million in that time, I would have called you a fanboy.

Why VGC is so under pressure with the the NPD report ?

You have yours numbers, npd theirs.

The 360 is around 2.5 millions that's all.

I agree. Microsoft put a lot of effort into Kinect's launch and banked on it being a big time success, they should have estimated more consoles being sold, especially when they raised the initial 3M projection to 5M.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

They DID?  Not in the DC region best buys...

Well, true enough I didn't see it doing above 5 mill either, hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess! Still though I maintain they should know what they're doing, they have a better clue at what it's going to sell than you and I, with all their "market research"

Even with Market Research, you can't get a perfect idea of what real effects of marketing efforts can do - (you can only estimate the demand) - until they actually start launching.

This is going to be their excuse for loosing to Nintendo in December confirmedz.

Above: still the best game of the year.
