Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 a distant third in December sales race - analysts

Its a good thing that the final GT5 delay was short. Overall the results in NA for December are still amazing. About the x360 its amazing what a new console design new dashboard, and a well timed hardware accessory can do to sales.  It feels like a completely new console all of a sudden.

GT5's sales performance should silence those haters!

Lmao!

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

We have:

Americas:

Wii - 3,039,160
NDS - 2,552,744
360 - 2,546,701
PS3 - 1,201,311
PSP - 527,647

US (I'm using the 87% figure):

Wii - 2,644,069
NDS - 2,220,887
360 - 2,215,630
PS3 - 1,045,141
PSP - 459,053

December = 5 weeks

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 28th Nov 2010 to 01st Jan 2011:

Console Wii PS3 X360 PSP DS PS2
America
3,629,670
1,411,355
2,996,802
610,847
3,088,272
442,796

ah true I knew it was 5 weeks, but I forgot that using the hardware table the starting date doesn't include the previous week unlike the Americas Weekly Charts.

I'm not surprised. Americas is lost for the PS3.

I've noticed that beginning this holiday, only YoY matters for PS3 now.  So I wouldn't be so down on it.

So, the equivalent US figure for VGChartz estimate for 360 is right at 2.6M. I have a feeling that VGChartz will be the most accurate of the predictions for the 360 this month.

MS did announce 8M Kinects shipped by the end of the year, and Greenberg said that shipped almost equaled sold to consumers, so US sales of 360 of just 1.9M seems awfully low. I don't buy it.

For what its worth... PS3 did surpass original Xbox sales in America.

That's something to boast about!

Not that I disagree, but just to be the devil's advocate, Kinect may mainly be selling to the base, like Move was, so it may not be moving much hardware despite moving extraordinary amounts.

Sales don't matter much to me anyway, it's just interesting.

But PS3 in America is still doing good numbers, just not as good as the competition. I think it's ok considering that it's doing great numbers outside of America.
