Screw achievements.

hmmmm no PS3 or 360 games in your library.

and? I'm a PC player too and I don't care about the Steam achievements I get. Happy?

Steam achievements are nowhere near what achievements are for the 360 and trophies are for PS3. For starters it is hard to know where to find your unlocked achievements.  There is no single place where all of your achievements shown together, and instead you need to view your games list, and then scroll down until you find the specific game you want.

Another problem with Steam Achievements is there is no way to measure how well you're actually doing.  There is no worth to the achievement with instead the game will simply state that you have unlocked X number of achievements out of a total of Y.

Lastly comparing your achievements is a pain in the ass and even when you finally manage to do so it doesn’t make for an interesting comparison since none of the achievements have a value attached to them.

So, you saying that you do not care about Steam achievements does not surprise me.  I find myself not caring to much about my Steam achievements eithor. If you haven't tried PS3 or 360 how can you judge them?

Don't mistake me; I understand the logic behind the claim.  But I'm fairly confident that the data don't support the claim.  You're offering a hypothetical to support the thesis, and I concede that, in a vacuum, there is a logical connection there.  But to the best of my knowledge, reality contradicts this hypothetical.  Or is there some data that I'm missing?

Hey, I say if the logic makes sense it makes sense.  :-p

Though I would be interested to see your source and when it was written.

Man, reply to me

(you are still wrong, and this bit of logic doesn't even work with you; your completion rate is like 19%)

Another thing to consider is achievements don't always represent how much of the game you actually complete.

Chances are most people with 1000GS in The Burning Earth never play beyond that first stage. =P

The principle of achievements is the same, no matter if one platform has a better achievement system or features.
Is it the thing that'll motivate you to play a game? Cool. Me? No.

I might not own a 360 or PS3 console, but I'm familiar with them as I have friends who do have them and we play together whenever possible.

I've forgotten how pitiful twesterm's gamerscore is, because I've disabled signatures a long time ago. I can only see them when I view a single post.

I wonder how long it will take until he demands that movies have achievement systems too, so that you have more of a reason to finish watching it.

That is something I have been actively wishing for. I watch a ton of movies and a tiny consolation prize would be nice. Torne in Japan gives trophies for watching video content. If only that were over here ;_;

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

That's another way I'm weird-- I have a terrible habit of putting things down and moving onto something else shiny.

(and replying to Rol to bother Khuutra)

The Earth being flat makes more sense than this gravity nonsense they try shoving down our throats!

I'll see if I can dig up the article once I have some free time.

You know, people are already calling you sad outside of this thread. Just saying.

I am sad, so very sad.  ):

You're only proving the point that achievements don't really affect your in-game behavior, so there's not even anecdotal evidence for your position.

Maybe you should try picking games based on which are more satisfying, rather than based on the cheevos.

But I do have plenty anecdotal evidence since I know plenty of people that play games purely for achievements.  Just because I don't finish games or only have a 19% completion rate doesn't damn my argument.

Oh god I hate achievements. When I play a game, I want the rewards to be given / told from within the game. Achievemants are breaking the immersion, and there's no lazier way to reward a gamer than with dull, standardized virtual badges. It's a bit like Skype messages popping up during a movie...
