Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The 3DS is missing one key thing

So I've finally started watching videos and reading about the 3DS and there's one major thing I think it's missing-- and achievement type system.

I think Nintendo is really missing a big thing by not giving people a single profile that tracks achievements across all games and can later be ported to the Wii or Wii2.  Achievements have become a pretty large thing and like it or not, people play games for achievements.  Nintendo more than anyone should know that people love to collect things (Pokemon) and they're just really shooting themselves in the foot for leaving that out again.

Agreed. I love that I can keep track of everything I've played, and what I've done in a game that way, and that the accounts transfer as well. One of the reasons I'm interested in a WP7 phone is because I can use my XBL account for gaming on it. I really hope Sony brings trophies to the PSP2 so the same can be done there.

Nintendo not even having an account for you is one of the reasons why I don't buy games from their online stores. If they can't let me redownload my games if I need to, then I won't buy them in the first place.

Oh and here I thought you were talking about the battery life

Screw achievements.

Actually, you can redownload your games for free.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

The only people who really seem to care about achievements are PS3/360 fans. The general Nintendo audience and the expanded audience don't seem to care for them much at all so I doubt it would be worth the effort.

idk I own all three consoles and would really love achievemtents for my wii. Alot of my friends who own wiis think the same so i guess it depends.

I'm with you, but actually at the japanese event the online lacked completely, as well as the multimedia (except for some functions of the camera). Hopefully they'll show them on the 19th...I still hope for achievements, Nintendo could really make something great!

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

This. Even though I like trophies, I think gamers would have been better off without it. It gives a special meaning to actually play a game, not for trophies. It shows the true replay value of a game and its speciality. Uncharted 1 remains the only one I have played through multiple times not for trophies, but for the experience along with gears of war 1.

But some kind of a way to track what games I have played would be cool, I use the trophy and achievement function mainly for that.

WUT?

I didn't play in the late 80s-early 90s for achievements. Is 2011 and I'm not playing for that s*. I play games because it's fun/enjoyable.

I still remember the day I finished watching the intro in GTA4 and I got the message that I receveid a trophie.

(I thought: you gotta be kidding me.... )

Gaming is going downhill and instead they are placing a thing that shows what you did on the game......
