Forums - Sony Discussion - So Long PS3 :(

So i was playing a downloaded game last night when my console switched itself off and was flashing a red light at me, its the old 60GB UK launch console so i thought it might have just overheated, but when i turned it off and then back on again i get the dreaded YLOD

I thought i was one of the lucky ones not to get this issue as never had any before but ah well... All i can say is thank you for Home Insurance lol

Shame i will have to get a slim sent to me but better than nothing and got the other halves 40GB PS3 to use in the meantime, shall just put my HDD in it and continue playing!

It'll make you format the drive before using it.

Nooooo!!!! Damn, there goes that idea anyway!

ah that sucks but if you think about it its amazing it lasted this long

Nearly 4 years... then again i would expect a console to last way more than that but hey ho, not much i can do!

Insurance say that it isnt going to be covered (which makes no sense so shall complain about that) so off to the shops to buy a new one!

Anyone know of a way i can transfer my data from my old HDD to the new one? Tried the original HDD and true to what the guy said it formatted the whole thing

Sorry for your loss man.  I got a 80gb model with 4 USB's and since I sold my PS2 to help buy it.  I dont know what I would do if mine died on me because I still play some PS2 games on it.

Are you serious?

An electronics device lasting 4 years isn't especially long. For such a high price I expect an absolute minimum of 15 years.

In 2009 I bought a dirty looking PC Engine Duo RX, which was released in 1994 I guess. By the looks of it I didn't expect it to work, but when I popped in a CD it turned on the first try and I could play without problems and it still works in 2011.

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/
