Forums - Gaming Discussion - Any advice for someone who wants to get into a fighting series?

So I really want to get into playing fighting games, but I have no idea where to start. Any suggestions for beginner fighting games to play? I do own Soul Calibur 1 for DC and Soul Calibur 2 for GCN. Also, is it worth investing into arcade pads?

Thanks!

Go old school with Street Fighter 2. The original Mortal Kombat is great, but not nearly as balanced as Street Fighter 2.

I remember going to friend's birthday parties in elementary and junior high school where we would have a Mortal Kombat competition. Many of my friends played the game more than me and could easily beat me 2 out 3 times. Well, I won quite a few matches by cheap-shotting them with jump kicks to knock them down, uppercuts as soon as they stood, another jump kick, another uppercut, and mister "I spent 6 hours last night practicing" didn't even make it out of the 1st round.

So yeah, old school is the way to go. If you go 3D, I would recommend Virtua Fighter.

My first 'serious' fighter was Tatsunoko vs Capcom.  I then moved onto Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, Marvel vs Capcom and Blazblue

Easier Fighting games would be Soul CaliburIV and Marvel vs Capcom 3 which is coming out Feb 15 both are easy to learn but hard to master ....

As for arcade sticks if your really serious about it then get an arcade stick but I've seen good PRO players use a regular controller so it is up to decide.

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

Soul Calibur IV can be enjoyed without spending years in training which makes it perfect party game ;)

On the other hand if you want to go pro BlazBlue CS has very deep tutorial system which will show you all the stuff you need to know (and 4 times more of stuff you didn't even know you are missing).
