Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3DS battery life is 3-to-5 hours for 3DS games

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/hardware/spec/index.html

It's 3 to 5 hours for 3DS games and about 5 to 8 hours for DS games.

That's a pretty huge step back.

I remember my Fat DS easily pulling through 12 hours at launch, but I could be remembering wrong, what do you current DS enthusiast think of the battery life?

Also, it would be pretty cool if Nintendo allowed all USB charges to charge the 3DS, kind of like how the Dualshock 3 and PSP works. That might actually take away some of the stress from the shorter battery life.

Edit: I'd also like to mention that it takes about 3.5 hours to get the 3 to 5 hours charge, which is extremely high in comparison to other portable devices. This piece of info was also from Gaf, I can't find it on the link (it's a messy page).

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Phat DS most certainly did not last 12 hours, try half that dude..

In terms of the 3DS, pretty pathetic battery life, shorter than I expected.. I guess now we know the reason why the cradle will be bundled with the hardware.

It's been deduced in the other thread that this is a conservative estimate, since Nintendo's own estimates for DSi is 4-5 hours, which is hardly the case

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Seems a little bit too short to me. 7-8 hrs is ideal for me. Oh well - an extra charge midweek, instead of a weekly charge.

GASP... 3 to 5 hours? No thanks, I will just waith for a slimmer better 3ds. Actually, now that I think about it, I play my handhelds at home most of the time, so it wouldn't be so bad, yet still not preferrable.

....

Either this is bs or Nintendo has lost it.

If true, I'll take a cue from one of the above posts and wait for a revision with a better battery life.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Really? Weird, I remember rarely charging my original DS and playing it heaps. It was so long ago, I've probably made a mistake then.

Someone posted this on Neogaf:

DSi numbers.
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/series/dsi/spec/index.html

Lowest brightness: 9 - 14 hours
It is low brightness: 8 - 12 hours
Medium brightness: 6 - 9 hours
High brightness : 4 - 6 hours
The highest brightness Approximately: 3 - 4 hours

The DSi apparently consumes more battery life than the DS Lite (according to some dude on Gaf) and I doubt Nintendo would be throwing around the maximum settings battery life for the 3DS, so in comparison to the DSi, it's getting out about half the life (based on the medium settings).

It's also pretty weird that it takes 3.5 hours to charge a console that only has 3 to 5 hours of game life. That's pretty extreme in comparison to other portable devices.

Check the Japan info thread guys:

The battery life varies depending on the brightness of the screen ※.

※ The approximate battery life. May be less depending on operating conditions.

Basically battery life depends on the setting (bight, Wi Fi, etc.) Nintendo even claims that the DSi has a battery life of 4-5 hours

*sigh*

Nintendo DSi 3-4 hours. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/series/dsi/spec/index.html

How's that much different? They show the worst case scenario as always.

That's horrible.
