Forums - Sony Discussion - The PlayStation Move is doing phenomenally - EEDAR Analyst

Tried Move at a local store on wednesday, not my cup of tea. But at least it might be making Sony some much needed money.

Sony had a press conference at CES BEFORE Microsoft's.  They had a perfect opportunity to tout the sales numbers of Move for the holidays.

They did not.

To be completely honest, as has been discussed, the difficulty of establishing how many Move enabled households they're are out there tempers any announcement that they could make.  But to give a number of 4.1 million shipped in late November as a response to Kinect's initial numbers and not give an update at an event as big as CES is ... I'm sorry, it just doesn't paint a very confident picture whether its accurate or not (see MS being coy about WP7 sales for example).

The reality is that this product has been out since September and, after months of mocking Wii and Kinect in PR quotes and advertisements, was likely unable to put up sales numbers that compare.

Thus the silence from Sony.

ROFL!!!!!! then after sony comes out with numbers yous cry "teh over shipps!!" GTFO seriously.

theres always a negative explanation from you guys.

sony doesn't release numbers = their scared.

sony release number = teh stuffing channel.

Great news for Sony Fans. ^_^

Well, I don't know if you guys believe me but I've been trying to find a standalone move controller for the past few weeks to no avail. Granted, I did not scout the shops daily, I do check them like once a week. The first week they told me it will arrive before xmas. I went day after xmas, they told me its sold out and new stocks should arrive by new year. I missed the window before new year and went on new year's day. Its sold out..

I saw like thirty Move bundles though

Awesome! I'm not a motion gamer at all but I like seeing Sony succeed now after how much money they were losing earlier.

I have a Move and it's great... and a played Kinect and it's amazing.

Some games are better with Move: tennis, sword fights, baseball, FPS, etc... and others with Kinect: hand fights, dancing, etc.

Congrats Move and Sony...
Congrats Kinect and Microsoft...

That's illegal here.  You are not allowed to like both.

Just like you must choose between DKC and GT5.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

So true.  I already know we're going to get plenty of Sony stuffing the channel threads and comments after the financial reports come out.  Oh well, so is life.

And congrats to Sony for their success.  Move is great fun.  Loving Sports Champions and The Fight.

Really glad to hear. It was def natural to feel like the Move was failing since Kinect was doing so well.

Bought the Move and I love it. The precision is pretty awesome. Played it with my entire family (gma, gpa, aunts, uncles, mom, step dad, etc.) on Christmas day. My family is usually anti-video games, but they all played and absolutely loved it-at one point we had 7 people teamed up playing 4-player frisbee golf. I even broke out the "Start the Party" demo and my entire family was dying laughing haha. I really hope Sony amps up the sequel to Start the Party, bc the first is incredibly fun and hilarious to play with family. Improvements/additions they make plus marketing to make it really appeal to families I think could really create the Move a big hit. If the average family played that game I know they'd love it, but they just have to find out about it (i.e. marketing).

Oh, and just for the record bc some other ppl mentioned it, I have The Fight: Lights Out and I love it as well. I wrote it off when I saw the critic reviews, but once I started reading user reviews I decided to get it. Really happy I did. Really cool, really accurate, really responsive, and a ridiculous workout. My entire upper body hurt for like 5 days after I first played it haha-had sore muscles that had never in my life been sore before, even when I used to lift ha.

Move is doing really well and im sorry if anyone believes that vgc unique user figure then they are being misled, move literally can be found next to nowhere at the moment and sports champions has sold through 2m, so that means minimum unique users must be around 2m, but im  still pretty sure that 4.1m figure would have sold out by now and they would be eating into new shipment stock that just arroved which sony will report when they give out their ps3 shipment figures.

lol i had a friend around my house the other day and they did not even know that move existed so when we started playing on it she said oooh what's that i like it i want one, lolz PLAYSTATION MOVE SLOWLY OPENING PEOPLES HEARTS ONE AT A TIME LOL.

it's the future of handheld

PS VITA = LIFE

The official Vita thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=130023&page=1

It's worth noting 4.1m Move's is from Nov 2010 whereas 8m Kinect is Janaury 2011.

But yeah, the Move is doing fine. Sony didn't give it the launch marketing launch or big software line up that Kinect had - and it's shown in sales figures - but the fact is the thing is still selling selling lots of hardware and software every week despite still being far from reaching it's stride.

The biggest criticism you can give the device is that it hasn't perhaps driven PS3 sales as much as you would have hoped, or Kinect appears to have, however give it a year, once the device has a strong library of games, has more consumer awareness and the PS3 price is cut closer to the competition I think that'll start to happen. Sony are trying to establish this controller for the long term and with that in mind it's off to a great start.
