Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Responds To PS3 Hacks

“We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it,” Sony told us in a brief statement. “We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details.”

Sony’s response is at odds with comments given to the BBC yesterday by fail0verflow member pytey, who said: “The complete console is compromised – there is no way back.

“The only way to fix this is to issue new hardware. Sony will have to accept this.”

Both fail0verflow and GeoHot are staunchly anti-piracy, and have not released any tools that directly enable the playing of copied games, but it is widely expected that piracy will soon be rife on what was, until very recently, considered to be the most secure console ever released.

Surprised Sony said that statement, from what I understand, this is a huge mess...and firmware wouldn't fix it.

it will be interesting to see what they do

Do us all a favor Sony:  spend that time and manpower on goals you can actually achieve, such as crossgame voice chat.

I can't see it being fixed myself. Even if they manage to detect dodgy ISO files due to their size on the hard drive there's nothing that I can see stopping people from getting Blu-Ray writers, blank Blu-Rays and writing their own Blu-Ray discs. They're all very affordable nowadays.

This is why I hate hackers, Sony just uses their time trying to remove hackers instead of something special, like say...cross game chat.

They don't have to issue new pc hardware to keep trying new drm on pc...

Thanks to the hackers we'll be moving 1 stap closer to always on drm for console games.

Or you won't be able to start the game until you register and get a key generated based on your console ID. Call a phone line, enter the key that came with the game, enter your ps3 ID and receive a key to unlock the game for your ps3. Great way to block the 2nd hand market as well :/ Hackers will find a way around that, but will have to do it for each new game.

I'm curious to see what they can do, on all fronts. How long until we see some action from them?

um isn't xbox full of hacks and pirated games

so why come down on SONY for not yet stopping this or wont be able to stop it.

they been able to stop it until now and that 2010!!! thats an good effort holding out for 3 years

I am sure SONY will figure one way. maybe something to do with the game disks. But what i think is that FailOverFlow wants an job at SONY like most hackers who want work, is to hack into the company the want to work and offer and solution to the problem they caused.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I probably don't understand but... The Nintendo Wii and the 360 are fully hacked since the begining and the are the number one and two in hardware sales. (Software too?) So what if Sony do nothing? Will be the PS3 really doomed this time?

Or is it because they are still losing money for every console they sale so their only profit they have left is on software?

Please somebody explain
