Forums - Sony Discussion - Why in the land of platforming (Japan) LBP failed so miserably?

When Mario has such lofty sales i just wander why LBP did sooooooo bad.

1. design. (LBP main character is a bit wacky or un japanese?)

2. Story less ness.

3. some important platforming element missing?

4. difficuilty level quite high or low

5. it does not have MARIO..

6. Other (explain)

ps. i dont play platforming games so i have no answer.. this question just popped in my mind.

Because the game fails as a platformer? Just being a platformer doesn't make miracles, same reasons a lot of FPS flop in USA.

Above: still the best game of the year.

Perhaps, way too floaty and slow paced for a platformer...

2. Story less ness.

There are tons of popular platformers that have no real story, just a short explaination as to why the main protagonist is going through such a gauntlet.

3. some important platforming element missing?

Such as?

4. difficuilty level quite high or low

Don't think this matters much

5. it does not have MARIO..

Neither does DKCR or Kirby's Epic Yarn.  Both of which posted solid numbers.

6. Other (explain)

what about it?  an established franchise going back years now released on the wii?  this relates to LBP how?

It and LBP of of the same genre.  It's also not created by a British game studio, so it's an exception to the metric you set forth.

No he meant that Donkey Kong Country: Returns isn't Japanese either.

It wasn't developed in Japan and it didn't flop.

This is one of the biggest bulshits that exist. How did then Donkey Kong Country was popular? There was no similar game with him as character before. How did Halo got popular? It's first game sold VERY well, despite the sequels selling better. Same for Crash, or whatever character you want to pick up. It depends solely on the quality of the game.
