Forums - Sales Discussion - Major retailer doing a "upgrade to a PS3 / 360 by trading in your Wii"

Its just an after Christmas sales deal, EB just wants to move the stock that didnt sell over Christmas. Wii's are still in demand down here (try find a red Wii in an EB store here) calling it an upgrade is just them using a sales tactic to get you to buy something you don't want.

Some people are taking this way to personally, Id hate to think what they would say if they saw there favorite console in a pawnbroker, bargain bin or worst of all a garage sale!

the word upgrade is used to fool them in trading in their Wii

It *IS* an upgrade.  They're offering people who made the mistake of buying a console made for children the option of buying a grown up console that does a ton more while still offering tons of content for children.

Other than a few rehashed a million billion times kiddy games, Nintendo doesn't actually offer much for adults.

Really oughta quote C. S. Lewis right about now...

C.S Lewis is pretty bad, why you would want to quote him?

Isn't there a quote along the lines of only kids want adult stuff? It was an explanation regarding why someone is childish if they think adult = good. That's what I was talking about.

I don't know, but that sounds like something he might have said. Pretty stupid. Why would someone have to be childish if he/she does not like kiddy stuff? Like pixar movies or similar stuff? :D

sigh...

Don't get me wrong, the Wii is a cute toy with cutesy children's games and fit nicely in certain situations however you cannot deny that a PS3 or 360 brings WAY more to the table.  Media Sharing is HUGE and getting bigger by the day now.

The point i'm trying to make is that they're offering the deal because people want to take the deal.  They're not doing it just for the kindness of their hearts.  A local store took a fair number of returns of WII's this boxing day being traded in for Kinect bundles.  How do I know?  While I was getting my new Samsung 3D 54" tv for $800 off(fweeeeee), I sat beside the returns desk and watched 5 people do returns.  It's possible we might need to adjust WII down and PS3/360 up.

If I was a kid, i'd sure want the latest and greatest technology along with a way to stream my Divx's to my TV. ;)

Spoken like a mature adult, wise beyond your years.

An "upgrade"? Yeah, no. If you want the most diverse selection of games this gen, you need a Wii AND one of the HD systems. This is merely a swap of part of the equation, not an upgrade.

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

GAME was accepting all consoles as trade-ins for both the PS3 Slim and the 360S, but they didn't try to say that the console you were buying was better than the one that you already owned.

wish this was offered in the states. Wouldn't hesitate, and swap mine for a PS3.

Geez people!

The Wii/Nintendo don't lose from this. You take Wiis from people who aren't making use of them and give them to people who probably will, I.E. a net gain for software sales.

The former Wii people gain because they get a system they will likely use more, I.E. a net gain for software sales and hardware sales.

EB games (gamestop) win, HD consoles win, Wii wins. This is a pretty awesome deal and probably should be done everywhere.

P.S. The Wii isn't the top console in New Zealand, the mead getting to your head again?

I was such a honey, I saved your thread.
