Forums - Sales Discussion - Major retailer doing a "upgrade to a PS3 / 360 by trading in your Wii"

the word upgrade is used to fool them in trading in their Wii

It *IS* an upgrade.  They're offering people who made the mistake of buying a console made for children the option of buying a grown up console that does a ton more while still offering tons of content for children.

Other than a few rehashed a million billion times kiddy games, Nintendo doesn't actually offer much for adults.

Lol @ "grown up console"

sigh...

Don't get me wrong, the Wii is a cute toy with cutesy children's games and fit nicely in certain situations however you cannot deny that a PS3 or 360 brings WAY more to the table.  Media Sharing is HUGE and getting bigger by the day now.

The point i'm trying to make is that they're offering the deal because people want to take the deal.  They're not doing it just for the kindness of their hearts.  A local store took a fair number of returns of WII's this boxing day being traded in for Kinect bundles.  How do I know?  While I was getting my new Samsung 3D 54" tv for $800 off(fweeeeee), I sat beside the returns desk and watched 5 people do returns.  It's possible we might need to adjust WII down and PS3/360 up.

If I was a kid, i'd sure want the latest and greatest technology along with a way to stream my Divx's to my TV. ;)

I would then ask the retailers "Can I play Super Smash Bros. on the PS3?"   Because if i could, I would get one just for it.

will how ridiculously cracked the ps3 is right now...you're probably only a month or two away from being able to play SSBB on a ps3...

While that would be cool I don't think PS3 is strong enough to handle good-enough Wii emulation. Emulation requires a lot of extra resources.

Edit:

Hm, or maybe it is. There's already work being done on a PS3 port of the Dolphin emulator (GC/Wii) so I guess it's possible.

they could have been pandering to the current group in the store to increase sales.

Really oughta quote C. S. Lewis right about now...

you should have asked the shop owner if he can upgrade your games too...

such an offer is just ridiculous. only idiots buy there system based on hardwarepower. games which on run on them are the only thing that matters.

next time someone offers me a deal like that, i will ask him how the ps360 version of mario galaxy is called, or where i can find a game like fragile dreams or monster hunter tri, or anything thats not a shooter based (multiplattform) title.

C.S Lewis is pretty bad, why you would want to quote him?

Isn't there a quote along the lines of only kids want adult stuff? It was an explanation regarding why someone is childish if they think adult = good. That's what I was talking about.
