I think when any of the big 3 say "sold", it's to retailers rather than consumers. Either way it's massive.
I think its sold and not shipped. He said he predicted 5 million, that was supposed to be 5 million sold to people, but that has been exceeded to 8 million now.
Probably shipped, but still damned impressive. Kinect might give the balance board a run for its money as the top peripheral of this generation.

It's strange why they're not saying shipped, but so far they havn't.
Microsoft doesn't publish sold numbers as shipped numbers. If they say "sold" they mean "sold to consumers".
