Because thats what adamant fans of opposing systems do....they did it when the PS3 slim came out and they have always done it with the Wii. 

Its not really downplaying. I mean, would kinect have sold so much without the advertisement? Who knows? Either way it did though...with the advertising.

well i voted but hurt before i read the OP because it was funny, but i'm happy for MS. they made my first console sales predictions come true so im not hurt 1 bit.

It may be because we're not so sure that sales will remain consistently strong throughout the rest of it's life as they have in the holiday seasons.

Other then that, take a wild guess why people try to liken Kinect to an Eyetoy, or say that core games couldn't possibly work on it. I'll give you a hint, it begins with not owning it.
