Forums - Gaming Discussion - Resistance 2 vs Halo Reach [Lens of Truth]

This can't be real.

Coming from someone who has beat both of them multiple times Resistance isn't even close.

Not by miles.

I love Insomniac and the Resistance franchise. I'm surprised by this comparison though, I thought Reach would win easily. 2010 game vs 2008 game?

Well, what is it the people want, then?

Well based off the criticism people had for resistance 2 including myself, people wanted the old school type resistance back with the pick up weapons and weapon wheel. They also wanted the dark horror type feeling the first game had to come back which is something Resistance 3 is showing to have.

But doesn't that contradict what they wanted with 2? You called BS on what I said, so I want to know why that is.

It does contradict what they wanted. Thats why Insomniac messed up by listening and catering to the fans. Oh and I said its complete bullshit that Insomniac listened to mainstream and not there fans because anyone who was on those game nights with insomniac staff and was a loyal member to there Resistance Headquarters knows that Insomniac listened very hard to there fans. Theres even interviews prior to R2s release were they talked about fans input for the second titles.

What's the point of this comparison? If it's visually best exclusive FPS showdown then why isn't it KZ2 vs Halo: Reach? I'm assuming Halo: Reach is the visually best exclusive FPS on 360, maybe I'm wrong.

Besides I always thought Halo was about the gameplay and Bungie never tried to max out the visuals.

Seems like a comparison with no real point to it.

i guse its pas meets present.

on topic: Resistance 2 looks better, but not by that much. none like Resistance2 i've spent some time with Reach and by far its the best halo although the character model seem alittle on the smalish side.

It's just for fun. It's interesting to see games pitted against each other randomly and just like the Uncharted 1 vs Enslaved comparison, it's a pretty interesting topic.

Also, Halo: Reach isn't the best looking FPS on the 360, it's performance suffers at some points and it's visuals are far more about art style than it is tech.

They also specifically mentioned in the article that Killzone 2 would be a pointless comparison, because everyone's already analysed the game and it hasn't got much competition. They felt that Resistance deserves a go and so they pitted it against a comparable game.

Resistance 2 was never touted as a visual powerhouse, neither was Halo: Reach, it's just for fun and it's just as much about performance, than it is visuals. This isn't a competition about which is the better game, just which is the better running and looking game.

Uncharted vs Enslaved makes at least a semblance of sense, because both are on PS3. And in some respects it's a measure of whether 3rd parties have managed to grasp Teh C3LL as well as ND had way back when Uncharted:DF came out.  So there's a point to that comparison, some value in the assessment, and some truth about the progress of game developers in the result. R2 vs H:R (not to be confused with HR) doesn't have any of that useful potential.

I don't see the point in comparing the graphics/visual performance of 2 exclusive games on different machines, neither of which are examples of the technical pinnacle on either machine.

Note: I didn't surmise/ask whether Halo: Reach was the visual pinnacle of FPS on 360, I wondered whether it was the visually best Xbox 360 exclusive FPS. I can't think of any other FPS 360 exclusives, but I don't really know the 360 library.

Of course the fact that multiplat FPS are technically better on 360 shows the difference between the 360 approach to exclusives and the PS3 approach to exclusives.

Wait.. compare R2 with Reach?

Eh.. Its like comparing Risen (PC) with Mass Effect 2..

ive never played reach but if the clips they used are to be belived its really boring

It seems that Resistance 2 holds a more consistent fram-rate and Reach has a slight bit of tearing. In that aspect of the comparison R2 is slightly superior. Which for a game that is 2 years older is impressive.

Both are fantastic games, but still they're far from technical marvels on their respective platforms.

ok bottom line we have a "more" expensive console with "better" specs having a game that is LOOKING slightly bette.. to me it's more about the gameplay in that case... both look to me good enough... but the feeling looks really different.... R2 does an amazing job at give you that oppresive feeling in the environement..... halo got those open space with ships flying in droping aliens... got that feeling of sudden invasion... at the end of the day I think both game themself (and there devs) did a really great job at achieving what they were aming for... but when it comes to console flame war look at the begining of my post....

but it's all about the games at the end of the day... both look good and fun... that's what matters most....
