Forums - Sony Discussion - So what will Sony do to fix the exploit?

Now that you don't have to actually modify the PS3 in anyway to run homebrew what do you think sony will do to fix this problem?

Its pretty much guaranteed now that the PS4 will be less open than the PS3 and everything will locked and secure by using propietory accessories.

As for the PS3, what do you think sony will do to stop this exploit?

The question is... is there anything they can do?

I can't think of anything...

A banner stolen from some site xD

Release Final Fantasy Versus XIII nowwwwwwwwww!!! lol :P

The have gained access to the keys.

PS3 is pretty much hacked for good.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

There's not really a lot they can do besides release the PS4, the PS3 is pretty much open at this point.

They have the root keys so the PS3 will think every home brew app is an official app and they can't revoke the key because then everything released before they released the fix wouldn't work anymore.

Even if they did release some firmware update the failoverflow conference showed how they can easily roll back to any firmware update and still have the PS3 think it has the current firmware.

...

Actually, I'm sorry I guess there is a solution but it's about the dumbest thing imaginable-- They could revoke the old keys and then force everyone to send in their old games and have Sony send them back new ones.  :-p

For the most part the genie is out of the bottle and there is little that Sony can do ...

With that said, expect Sony to release new hardware, produce new firmware and to (try to) ban people from playing games online to fight piracy; but (likely) these measures will only be temporary fixes.

I was under the impression every PS3 had its own unique set of "keys."  Is that wrong, and these keys are the same ones in every PS3?

coicidental that ps3 now makes profit on just the hardware...yes, very coincidental.

Piracy probably won't hurt them that badly, and it will still require some effort. It's no flash-card rom trick.

The PS3 has been cracked open like a walnut SONY can't do anything about it besides release the PS4!

yes the keys are different

there are public keys(same all over) and private keys(unique to each console

but the hackers have public keys and know how to get private keys.

sony can still fix it if they change all the private keys by firmware update

Cats outta the bag. But its impressive Sony was able to hold it off for 4 years.
