Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who are EA kidding with Mass Effect 2 PS3.

I'd already played the game when it came out, but lended it, so I was tempted to pick up the PS3 version, but I saw this yesterday and at that price your crazy not to buy it

fantastic game though, my GOTY easily

How much is all the DLC for this game combined?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I might grab it for $20 buks....

It's a new PS3 release, only makes sense.

Sorry but this seems like are redundant question really.

ME2 is coming to PS3 late because of circumstances outside EA control - it's job now isn't to sell hugely but to pave the way for ME3 and the franchise in general on the platform.  EA no doubt hope it will sell okay but probably know that the price will soon drop and the bulk of sales will be at a lower price point.

General business practice is asituation like this is to release full price.  The fact the game is cheap on PC or 360 is irrelivent, you can't stick those versions in a PS3.  From a PS3 only perspective they might as well not exist.  EA and other publishers know this - that's why such releases are all full price.  They also know that after an initial peak of inteest the price will probably drop fast, but they'll accept that as standard for such a release.

Would I release full price?  No, I'd release at a lower (but still way higher than current PC/360 prices) level.  But... the funny thing is you've got to understand general pricing principles.  In classic pricing theory ME2 is brand new on PS3 and to release at a lower price would devalue the title next to it's release price on 360/PC.  Now, like I say I'd take the later nature of the release more into account than EA are, but such titles are always going to release above current low pricing on other platforms.

In the end, like I say, the value of ME2 on other platforms is strictly speaking irrelivent because that price is directly relative to that platform.  ME2 on PS3 pricing is directly related to PS3, where the title is brand new and has never been on sale before.

A slightly similar annalogy would be films with staggered release dates - when a film releases in one country maybe 12 months after it's release in say the US does it release at a much lower ticket price?  No, it releases at normal full price ticket.  Because in that country it's new even as its an old release elsewhere.

To be fair to EA, if they hadn't bought Bioware I doubt ME would ever be hitting PS3, so I don't think we should be too hard on them.

If paying full price bothers you hold on, it'll soon drop.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

It'll go down in price in due time.

Btw, it's hard to distinguish you from dahuman at first glance.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I'd say that the value of the interactive comic is far lower than having the original available for play on your platform.

Yeah. It still makes absolutely no sense to play ME2 without playing ME1, even if you have the comic. There is so much detail to the gameworld and story in ME1, that can't be replaced with a simple comic.

If you don't play ME1, you won't really notice all the things that will change in ME2 because of your choices.

All I know is that Im getting it day one.

Im brazilian so I will pay a high price no matter what.

But, someone I know will buy it for me in the US. So I will pay less than if I bought it here.

So Im happy

I agree with a lot of your points. but about the last thing, i heard that ME was originally planned as a triliogy for the PS3, so i think after the sales on the 360 they probabily wanted to release on the PS3 anyway. not that 2 mil sales are bad, but it could be 2mil on the PS3 as well as the 360, which doubles their fans, and userbase for future ME games.

and i think Bioware did also mention that 10mil sales units are a hit. to me this is madness, very few HD games this gen have reached that. so i think they've wanted to release on PS3 for a while now, and imo getting bought by EA was good, because they can facilitate that release.

This is a year late, why isn't this a budget price release like Bioshock and various other late ports?  Don't anyone try and answer the interactive comic or whatever for ME1 is worth the £35.

What, it should've been a free PSN download like Dead Space Extraction? :P

Actually, in the US Bioshock PS3 was full price iirc.  So were Oblivion, Eternal Sonata, Lost Planet, Ridge Racer 7 and most other late PS3 ports... to be honest, I can't remember a single "year later" 360 to PS3 port that launched at a budget price here?

In Europe many of those we

I guess your from the UK so how do you know that applies to 'Europe'? Also (in the UK at least) games are never sold for the RRP, shops normally knock off between £5 to £15 for all games year late or not right from day one. I've never heard of games being released at a budget range price for being released later on a rival console. Doesn't make much business sense to me.
