Forums - Gaming Discussion - Foolish remarks in the gaming industry

This isn't a rant thread. It's merely for collecting foolish comments made by industry insiders. So who as eaten the most crow since he/she made a precarious remark? My personal pick goes to Phil Harrison:

Speaking to trade magazine MCV, Phil Harrison, Sony's VP of studios has dismissed the DS as a "gimmick", stating that "The idea of a handheld rivalry with Nintendo is an irrelevance; those formats don't appear in our planning. It's not a fair comparison; not fair on them, I should stress. That sounds arrogant, maybe, but it's the truth."

This one always gives me a good laugh. Anybody know if he ever commented on this?

Who's your pick(s) by the way?

"Xbox 360 has the largest global install base of any current gen. high definition gaming console, Wii excluded,"

If the researchers at Strategy Analytics are correct, the Nintendo Revolution will sell just under 18 million units worldwide through 2012, a mere fraction of the global sales of the PS3 during the same period. Furthermore, the installed PS3 user base will be more than double that of the Xbox 360, despite the fact that Microsoft will have enjoyed a full year on the market without next-gen competition.

Yes I remember those analyst reports back in the day. There were pleanty of them. All pointing to world domincance by Sony. Man how things changed.

Was this thread necesarry? I mean we had plenty of these before. Yes, nobody could have seen the future, and PR talk exists to show confidence in their own product and convince buyers and shareholders to trust their brand/product/whatever so what is the big deal?

I dont want to sound rude, but most times, a thread like this ends with comments from Greenberg and Kaz beeing thrown around by MS and Sony fans, and then the bans come, simply because some posters get carried away.

""We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that (developers) want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is, what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?" explained Hirai."

So basically anyone whos miffed that the PS3 gets under-par performance in like for like scenarios next to hardware one year its senior, knows who to blame.

so let's not get carried away and stay just on topic. Besides if it were not for these comments, you are right and this tread is not neccesarry. But since PR people are dumb enough to make these laughable statements, I think I deserve the right to make a stupid thread about them.
