Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto to his rivals: Go and find something new

LBP is such a piece of bullshit. It's the only game i regret buying the last 4 years (Wii and ps3)

Stop comparing AAA games with B games please.

Wow... so many people in console warrior mode, not helped by the OP. Miyamoto was in the midst of talking about controls when he said 'our rivals need to do something new' (specifically the way Motionplus adds to Zelda). He wasn't in the midst of talking about creating new gaming ideas or franchises or whatever.

It's right there, clear as day. You just have to want to read it, but that would get in the way of veering off on a rant...

The DS, yes loaded with games...Wii not so much.

Every game they release on the Wii is just horrible when compared to the competition.

Thier last two big games Epic Kirby and Donkey Kong, are miniscule when compared to little big Planet 1/2 of the same Genre.

In LBP2 a player with enough time can easily and  very closely recreate Epic Kirby in its entirety, and almost match Donky Kong Country Returns EXACTLY, in HD- Because they are very simple games- Though i will say Kirby is Cute, but Donkey Kong is just a remake of a classic.

Point is Nintendo hasnt done anything new since The Conduit, which was OK but nothing grea compared to the competition.

Im just a bit peeved that nintendo would tell Sony/Microsoft to do something new, when they are in the same boat.

Hipocracy annoys me.

I just can't believe so many people buy that crap of LBP 2 being all the games in one because of level creator capabilities of sorts. Really.

"Hey, Developers of the world, haven't you heard? There's no use in making new games. LBP 2 is all the games in one. Oh, yeah, and Nintendo is doomed."

Finally!! Someone who read the article. Miyamoto is suggesting Nintendo's rivals should try setting a new trend with new types of hardware, rather than following the motion control trend Nintendo started with Wii. I think he's on to something, to be honest. Disrupting the market is what has allowed Nintendo to succeed, if they pull it off, it could work very well for Microsoft and Sony.

And as for those people ranting about new IP-yes, a new IP is wonderful and fun, but existing IPs can be among the most innovative. Two of this generations most innovative, inventive and critically acclaimed games (the Galaxy games) come from a 25 year old IP, but they bring something new to the table in terms of gameplay mechanics and ideas. That being said, I think Zelda needs freshening up and I look forward to seeing how Skyward Sword pans out-especially now Miyamoto is talking about it being a "denser" experience.

I understand Miyamoto's view in seeing the competition as creating Kinect and Move just to inch in on Nintendo's turf with similar games to Wii Play and whatnot. He is absolutely right in this regard.

However, I disagree with the premise of "The Wii was out first, Wii created motion controls, our competitors doing motion controls = blatant copying, and therefore they need to find something new." What this view fails to take into account is that both Move and Kinect have different titles coming out for them and compared to the Wii. Sony with the Move lineup seems to be trying to incorporate their core games with the Move. Microsoft with Kinect appears to be more or less whom Miyamoto is referring to in the OP.

My view is this, Nintendo with the Wii gained a lot of traction because the motion controls were and still are viewed as a unique novelty from Nintendo. Combined with a software library that looks more early Super Nintendo years with the motion controls, while your competitors are in a Red Ocean over the "core," then you win from the get go.

However, motion controls are just a platform. Once all your competitors have motion controls via Move and Kinect, then the dynamic changes from a Blue Ocean owned and operated by Nintendo to a Purple Ocean, which can stay Blue or devolve into a Red Ocean if your competitors start emulating your software library and putting out a library similar to Sega during the Genesis vs. Super Nintendo console wars of 1990s.

Nintendo saw this coming and this is why the 3DS compared to any platform since the SNES has the most 3rd party support. Nintendo foresees increased competition in the 8th generation and they want to alleviate any losses in the Blue Ocean by catering to the "core."

This being said, the wildcard here is smartphone gaming. In 2004 and 2005 when the DS and PSP were released, gaming on cell phones was in it's infancy. Nowadays with smartphones able to put out PC gaming graphics, Nintendo needs the 3DS more than ever and 3rd parties to counter both losses in the Blue Ocean to Move and Kinect and losses on the handheld side to smartphone gaming.

This is my view, it differs from yours, I could be wrong, and please correct if I am.

I hate to say it, but Miyamoto you need to take your own advice. Do something new, I love your IP's they are my favorite games ever, you are a gaming God. Which is why seeing you release Zelda title after Zelda title, Mario after Mario, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. I want to see another new Miyamoto game, you are the legend the master of gaming and I want more great games.

Does everyone agree with me? I mean where's Miyamoto's next origional game? Pikmin was awsome I can't wait for Pikmin3 but I would rather see Miyamoto doing something new rather then giving us yet another sequel to his gems. He is the master mind and honestly he has the creative capabilities to create another 4-5 franchises.

So Miyamoto your rivals are creating new IP's and taking some risks. Why doesn't the master show em how its done and give us another ground breaking franchise?

To be fair; Nintendo do create new IP's but Mario and Zelda are the ones most recognized since they are so old and have sold so many millions of games through well over two decades.

Miyamoto should be the one who should go and find something new, last thing he did was Nintendogs.

Polishing games isn't something "Different"

He did many things after nintendogs such as Wii sports resort, mario galaxy 1 and 2, wii music, let's just say he's done thingsafter nintendogs and is now doing other things like SS.

Sequels are something new now? by your logic , Madden 11 is very different than Madden 8. hey they made it afterwards!

You said Nintendogs are the last thing Miyamoto did which isn't true.

Yes the last new thing he did. what new thing that isn't a sequel he did? Mario Galaxy? isn't that... you know.... old? like 25 years old?

Nope mario galaxy is 3 years old and you didn't say that last new thing Miyamoto did was Nintendogs.

We hope that people will want to go back and replay the game once they finish it”.

You and me both, Shiggy.  Please don't put in an hour-long tutorial this time, eh?  And while I get that part of it was showing us how to beat the final boss, I'm not going to remember that 50 hours later...

HOLY CRAP!!!

I....never realized that. LOL that just blew my mind a little.

Wait there was an hour long tutorial in Twilight Princess?  Why don't I remember this?

Again did you read that section?, i'm not trying to start a fight,i'm just saying what i want to say, just an opinion, is it to hard to except that there are people who dislike the PR stuff that the people in companies say? , people are so sensitive...

Telling people they're trying to "obey miyamoto" is you purposely trying to somehow make someone's argument invalid as you're trying to discredit them for being obviously biased, even when there is no reason to even make that claim, and so you're relying on a fallacy to make your argument sound better, the thing is talking like that will only cause strife and what it is is mudslinging, it's what politicians use all the time.

But now you're just ignoring the facts put in front of you, since you keep bringing up that other producer thinking it somehow makes Miyamoto being general producer invalid, which it doesn't (nor does it make ALL the other games listed since Nintendogs invalid), nor does it make facts like Alfred pulled up invalid, sorry you simply didn't even research your own argument, you tried to back pedal in some cases, defeat your own logic in others, and ignoring all the facts laid out in front of you to serve your own argument which has no factual base.

Which again I go back to the initial post I said you should just drop it as a request because it would just end badly, the only reason this debate hasn't turned into a shit storm is because people like me and Alfred post very rationally and logically, and we don't get emotions involved.
