Basically my thoughts. However becuase when Halo3 comes out I expect the 360 to start outselling the Wii, and then holidays, the 360 will also outsell the Wii. (simple fact, the 360 has millions in extra stock, the wii has none, so when demand increase, 360 sales increase... Wii sales dont)

That's why I agree the Wii might pass the 360 in august/october. However november I think the 360 will sell more, and I think the 360 will be ahead of the Wii in december.

I am not so sure. The DS was really hard to find all throughout 2006. Sold out most of the time. The Wii seems to be in this same boat. Yet the DS sales definately increased in November and December. Nintendo was able to shift more units to retail during those months. Plus, Nintendo's current increase in production was solely form their current manufacturer. They have stated that they are looking at other manufactures to use as well. So I would bet that within the next 2 months we will see atleast one other manufacturer add on board and another 500k+ units being shipped per month be October. Probably in the 2m/month range. So, by the time the holidays hit Nintendo will be able to put just as many units on the shelves as the 360. Also, just as halo 3 will be big for 360 so will Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Super Smash Bros. I bet two of these three games will release after October. One probably in August.

Kwaad. come and join the real world! Halo 3 will give the 360 a temporary blip, nothing more. Nintendo is where it's at!. The thing that MS and Sony need to qickly get their heads around is that Wii sports @ 480p will sell more than their cuting edge games.

SpaceJace -

Did you ever bother to take a look at Halo2 launch numbers and see the actual "temporary blip"? November 2004 was the highest Nov. for the Xbox, the highest (or near highest) November EVER for a non-launch month for a console in history, and allowed the Xbox become the ONLY system to beat the PS2 out for a month. It shattered PS2 sales in December as well. (they both sold nearly the same # of units). Thats a huge coup for Xbox in 2004, as PS2 sales were nearly as strong the next Dec.

Fact is, weather people like it or not, GTAIV and H3 coming out within 1 week of eachother on the same system is HUGE. I hate Halo, and I really could care less for the game, but it's proven to be a system mover, and will do that immensely in November. I see the 360 easily beating the Wii and PS3 out in Nov and Dec. heck, it could beat Wii+ PS3 combined in November. Unlikely? Not when you consider that the Xbox did the same vs. PS2 and GC when H2 came out...And that was w/o a GTA game coming out on the system, and no price drop that was near it (as significantly as the $100 will be when MS does it before both games come out)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Nintendo no doubt had a DS boost factored into their production. It does not appear they have a similar one for Wii, nor have they ever shown the ability to have a Sony-esque December. Full year production's gonna need to be in the 20 million range for it to do so, unless they're expecting a drop in demand during the spring/summer/fall, which would not be surprising.

Uh, no. The numbers aren't up right now, but XBox generally sold somewhat over 500K for Nov, and somewhat over 1m for Dec. With Halo 2, that November jumped up to 750-800K or so, and the Dec number didn't jump very much.

Sony had miscalculated and underdelivered units that Xmas too, btw. But at their peak, they did 3mil consoles in Dec, which I'm pretty sure means over 800K in November. I think just last year, DS and PS2 were both in that range.

Basically, it was a shockingly small jump given the amount of software sold.

Of course, with no Halo game out for the 360 yet, and with GTA4 in the same time period, it should be a MUCH bigger jump this year. Will it create enough momentum to put 360 in the mainstream and keep it there, though?

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

The 65 nm chips will be used for a revamped 360 later in 2007. This will save Microsoft about $50 per 360, so we could expect a price Xbox cut of in the region of $50-$100.

One of the reasons why the Wii sells a lot more then the 360 is that it is much cheaper. Once the price differential is reduced, the Wii sales volumes advantage will also reduce.

Another factor is that half current XBox 360 owners did not own the original Xbox. There are still 10 million Xbox users yet to upgrade, many of whom are Halo fans.

If the price cut occurs around the time of the Halo3 launch, sales of the 360 could soar dramaticaly. For this reason I think that the Wii wont catch the 360 until early 2008.
